Levein On Cardiff Defeat

Craig Levein says he still has full belief in his side despite their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City at Ninian Park on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes went into the game on the back of a 2-0 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

But a Michael Ricketts goal for the Bluebirds just eight minutes into the contest proved to be enough on the night.

Speaking after the game, Levein said: "It was another game that I think we should have got something from and that seems to be quite a reoccurring theme. I don't think that our goalkeeper has had a save to make in the 90 minutes, but we have still lost the game.

"I am disappointed, as you can probably imagine, and there is a fair element of frustration in there as well.

"We worked hard but didn't get anything out of the game.

"It was frustrating. In some parts of the game we were good and we had some decent chances. But we probably didn't make their goalkeeper work hard enough.

"This result doesn't alter my belief that we are a decent side. Results may not indicate that, but it doesn't change my mind. I feel that we have had the chance to win every game so far and that was the case again tonight."

The Foxes had a goal disallowed in the closing stages of the game when Alan Maybury was adjudged to have been offside when finishing from close range.

Levein added: "I spoke to the linesman and he told me that in his opinion it was offside. I will just have to get over that because there is not an awful lot I can say. He had a better view than me so no matter what I say it isn't going to change anything."

And I was hoping he'd put up a bit of a fight at least :P

What about the goal craig? Didnt douglas need to make a save there.

According to the radio, you didnt work hard, infact it was the opposite.

If were having chances to win games, why arnt we doing so?

Tv evidence is the answer.

This has baffled me, surely he should be 100% sure that it was offside and not just in his opinion that it was offside

same old same old, we win one game, radio Leicester, the players and CL all get excited and say "win this game we will have mumentum (i dont know how to spell it) go into the top half and then push on from there" the game comes and we lose. Next game a draw, then lose, then win and the cycle repeats. "If we can win the next game...." is said right up until the end of the season but the same thing happens. This season will be mid table mediocracy once again. Sad but true

Not sure if its just me but im gettin quite annoyed about the fact that we play well but are never quite there. Its obvious that we might play well but the fact is that the other team has scored more goals than us!!!

Its all good saying that we are playing well but not getting the results every game, but do something about it!

im still in full support of CL and i think he can take the club far but i think we need to start getting at least a draw from sides like Cardiff. But i will give him time!

Don't take hope away from the fans. Otherwise the team will be playing in an empty stadium. :(

Well it was said loud and clear throughout the close season that we needed a specialist striker. Hume's a good player but as a midfield support to the front men not a specialist striker.

Hammond has loads of potential and has been unlucky not to score. But the lack of luck is probably praying on his mind now (despite generally playing okay) and he could probably do with being on the bench again if we had a genuine striker to replace him. We haven't cos we sold him.

OK, so tonight's result was a bad one, with a performance to match.

But let's NOT get nostalgic for the days of Connolly.

How many away goals, other than penalties, did he ever score for us?

I wasn't and it's my fault you've misunderstood my point. We needed another striker anyway and when Connolly was sold we needed one even more. Instead we bought a midfield support striker. A good player, no doubt. But it still left us needing a striker given that the promising Hammond was not likely to be the full answer for a while. I have not the slightest doubt that selling Connolly was for the best but as I said at the time, he needed replacing and I thought Hume would be followed by one of the other targets.

Inspiring words their from Craig Levein.

To be fair whatever the bloke says you will criticise him so he might as well be honest. We HAVE deserved to get more points this season but we havent....we'll have to pull together as a club and make sure we DO get the points deserved, although it sounds like we did tonight

I'm surprised Leveins not accepted part of the responsibility for the defeat as it was he who messed with the side and unsettled things and expected a group of players who hadn't seen much match action in recent weeks (Hughes,Kisnorbo,Gilbert) to play together on an understanding base, either that or he under-estimated Cardiff (who incidentally were shit) GET IT SORTED!

Well, technically speaking... there was one save to make, only that one didn't happen! :P

Moan, Moan, Moan

Stop looking at the short term results and aim a bit higher, after all there has onlt been 8 games played. Get off his case and let him build a team that will eventually get us promoted. Alternatavly. give him a few million pounds so he can buy in the players. Cos all I see here is lots of different opinions about how to put the team right and as all of us know less about football and the players than CL does, most of it is utter balls. The only commen thing between all the moaning messages is that CL aint doing a good enough job and that will result in the down fall of the best manager we have had since MON.

Give city a chance and support our club

5 wins from the last 26 league games. Relegation form.

I understand that he's looking to build a team, but with the players he had at his disposal last season and now this season, that record cannot be defended.

I want Levein to succeed, and I like his long term plans. He has reduced the age of the squad and introduced more energy in to the side, but results wise, we're no better off. He does need more time, but it seems that the problems from last season are still here:

1) Can't defend or score from set pieces - still.

2) Don't score enough goals, even when Connolly was here. If you take a look at our games, we rarely create an abundance of clear-cut chances.

3) To hammer home winning advantages. We were lucky against Stoke (Who were down to 10 men) and Wednesday (One of the poorest teams in the league)

There is still a lot of the season to go, so I'm looking forward to see how it pans out. I can't say I'm optimistic, especially as we have 4 strikers who scored a combined total of 7 goals at this level last season (de Vries 1, Dublin 6 - he was playing centreback a lot of the time)

What Levein needs to do is decide his best 11 and stick with it. Consistency is the key now. Players need to know their roles and gel properly as a team. We'll never get that if Levein keeps chopping and changing all the time, just because we're wary of teams, who are at best, mediocre.
