Tunch Is The Best Of The Bunch
October Awards

Aleksandar Tunchev claimed his second player of the month award in as many months after his performances drew the highest ratings from fans over the course of October. In a month that saw City win just once, Tunchev was the only player who achieved an average in excess of six with fellow defender Kerrea Gilbert finishing runner up and captain Matt Oakley rounding off the top three.

At the bottom end of the scale, right winger Max Gradel was lumped with the dreaded flop of the month title for the second month running after a series of poor performances from the Ivorian. Much debated keeper David Martin finished closely behind Gradel, with fan's favourite Andy King  making up the bottom three of players who were eligible for the awards.

It was a poor month overall for the City players as only three individual performances throughout the entire month were deemed worthy of a mark in excess of seven, with striker Steve Howard's performance 'wowing' the fans the most with his bullish display at Oldham.

The centre midfield pairing achieved very different levels of consistency with captain Matt Oakley having the most consistent marks throughout the month, and Andy King being the most erratic.

Perhaps the most notable statistic this month is that the overall team rating decreased every match this month culminated in the worst team performance of the season away to at Brighton. No doubt that November is a crucial month for City and the dip needs to end fingers crossed starting at home to Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

Final note: Thanks to everyone who voted this month - the more ratings that we get, the better the final result. I must ask once again that could the votes be restricted only to people who went to the game? If you didn't go to the game and still want to rate, please post your ratings on the messageboard but state that they were based on the radio commentary. Thanks.

I don't think Thrac will be very impressed with Andy King's mark.

Fair enough that. Tunchev's got all the ingredients for player of the season if he keeps his displays up.

Its the average deviation from the player's monthly average...if that makes sense.

The most consistent player could be getting 2s every game - it doesn't make them good, just consistent(ly bad)

So I'd guess the most inconsistent would be one who is getting 9s and then 2s etc.

Thanks for that Sheff.

It's a reflection on how poor the month was with Oakley being the third best player based on being consistently average I'm presuming.

Oakley's ratings were 5.87, 6.09, 5.59 and 5.32. The fact he didn't play against Brighton probably helped him to win this award as I'm sure that might have changed things. King's however were 5.71, 6.28, 6.18, 4.84 and 3.31 - a pretty erratic set of results.

Andy King is carbon copy of Matt Oakley, just 10 years younger.

Difference is, of course, King will never play in the Premiership, whereas Oakley spent most of his career in the top flight.

When the likes of Joe Mattock and Hobbs get a better mark you lose respect for the whole thing. Nothing in the stats suggest Oakley should be in front of him either but it only fuels my view that City fans much prefer players who clatter people to those who pass the ball quickly.

And I don't tik we'll ever see eye to eye on that one cos, in my view, cloggers are out of date now and even Brighton only staged their recovery once Savage went off. And I've seen quite sufficient cloggers and headless chickens at City to not be impressed.

Or maybe you're just incredibly ignorant in your view of Andy King? It's impossible to have a real conversation about the matter with you as your so rigid and old fashioned in your views that you're unwilling to even consider the possibility that you are wrong. He started off the season at a storming pace and since the international break, he's really gone off the boil and games are just passing him by (and dont harp back onto his goal against Walsall or whoever it was being disallowed becasue if we're including them in the stats, Steve Howard would be the player of the season by far!!)
