Leicester City 1-0 Yeovil Town
11 November 2008

Bulgarian defender Aleksandar Tunchev once again claimed the plaudits from the Leicester City fans after an assured defensive performance resulted in him being voted City's best player at home to Yeovil Town. Tunchev was followed closely by free-scoring winger Lloyd Dyer, whilst Joe Mattock and striker Steve Howard were tied to round off the top three.

Jack Hobbs played for long enough to be awarded somewhat harshly this week's flop of the match with a reasonable rating above 6, with Bruno Berner and top scorer Matty Fryatt rounding off the bottom three for people who played long enough to qualify for the title.

Full results below:

Player Awards:

Man of the Match: Aleksandar Tunchev – 7.39

Flop of the Match: Jack Hobbs – 6.12

Best Defender: Aleksandar Tunchev – 7.39

Harshest Voter: 1st – Dunc – 5.75; 2nd – Teebag / beaumontfox / Hollywood – 6.00; 3rd – elvis_LCFC – 6.08

A fairly disappointing 59 votes this week - half of what was being submitted at the start of the season. Also please note that only people who do not vote anonymously will be considered in the voter awards. If anyone has any ideas on how to bring more votes in to give a fairer overall representation of City fans, please do let me know your ideas. The web site itself is still under development and is some way off completion but in the meantime I'm all ears.

I find it very strange to understand how a defender could be MOM in a game where the opponents had only 31% possession and have universally been ranked the worst team we have played this season...

i'm sure he played well, but it sounds like he didn't have a lot to do... yes? no?

I have to agree with you there, I was quite surprised to see his name and the motm award next to it. I thought Dyer or Mattock would have taken MOTM as Dyer was casuing problems and Mattock had one of his better games for us. Tunchev didn't do anything wrong, had a solid game but didn't do much to stand out.

He's Tunchev though.

Should have been King.

Good to see Steve getting the rating he deserves though.

King deserved it, but Tunchev's composed performance and the way he brought the ball out of defence and started quite a lot of our attacks was impressive.

We have a tendancy of highly marking our defenders though, always have.

When you've only let in 12 goals in 15 matches the marks will tend to be higher for the defence.

Yes, but i'm not only talking about this season. I know our defence has been strong in the past few seasons, but we've always marked defenders higher for some reason.

I would've thought that's because our attackers haven't really shone through.

It's been different this season though. Lloyd, King, Howard and Fryatt have done very well, and the marks are starting to reflect that.

He's one of the reasons they had so little possession. When they did occasionally counter attack, Tunchev stood solid.

Not only that, he was instrumental in distributing the ball well in order to start our own attacks.

I understand your question. The whole team played well, particularly in the first half. I feel that he was the one that made his presence felt for the whole 90 minutes however.

It's so pleasant to have a footballing centre-back, someone who can pass into the midfield.

I think its probably a lot easier for defenders to get higher ratings without doing anything spectacular. All they need to do is be solid and a good mark is guaranteed. For wingers, they need to be taking their men on (successfully) and getting crosses in, midfielders need to be taking games 'by the scruff of the neck' and strikers need to be scoring. Anything less, and its invariably an average to poor mark.

Tunchev was fine but as others have said, he had precious little to do. Admittedly, that's exactly what I like about his defending - he makes it all look so simple.

But Yeovil didn't really have an attack and four defenders onto one for much of the time meant his job was never likely to be difficult. Certainly not hard enough to make him MoM.
