Southend United 0-2 Leicester City
18 April 2009

Matty Fryatt's double earned him the man of the match award as City were crowned as champions of League One following the 2-0 win at Southend. It was Fryatt's eighth award of the season and his first since the draw at MK Dons but well deserved after his 30th and 31st goals of the season carried City over the line and into the Championship for next season. Solid performances from Jack Hobbs and Andy King saw them make the top three.

Fair play.

Check me out being generous :D

(there might've been a slight rose/guinness-tinted view to my ratings)

Cheers Sheff

I'm shocked im 2nd harshest voter :dunno:

I thought they were fair, it was easily the worst 1st half i've seen all season, possibly ever.

There wasn't a single corner for either team, a single chance, or a single shot on target for either team in that 1st half, shocking it was!

Nope there wasn't :P Only the odd quarter chance.

Defo no corners for either side. Certainly the worst 1st half ive seen this season, in 22 first halves :D

I forgot to vote for this, but I would have gone for what the majority went for.

I'm not making a case for keeping him but we've just had two clean sheets, the defence has restabilised having only seemed iffy when Kisnorbo's been around, and has conceded only one goal a game overall.

Seeing as there were no chances for Southend in the first half and it hardly sounded as if we were being overrun in the second is there really such a big problem with the guy?

To me he's still learning as I would have expected given that he's still only 18.

He's completed far more matches this season which suggests that his body has adapted to the demands and the performances I've seen from him have been reasonably consistent given that the vast majority of youngsters are inconsistent in the early stages of their careers. That said he has important things to work on and quickly and I'm not yet convinced he should be first choice in The Championship.

But, Mattock's biggest problem has been the ridiculous hype he's had and the equally nonsensical expectations that hype has brought about. As I mentioned in the past, those responsible for him should have had a bit more patience. He's a long way from being the finished article. It remains to be seen if he ever will be but I wouldn't give up at this stage.
