The Player-Ratings.com 2008/09 Season Awards is in three parts:

Part One - Monthly Awards Review - reviewing who has won what each month
Part Two - Match & Voter Awards Review - a review of who has won the most match and voter awards during the season
Part Three - Player of the Season Awards - the big one. You find out who has done best in each category over the course of the season.

Part One - Monthly Awards Review

The Player-Ratings.com monthly awards were a bit of a monopoly for defenders until January. Aleksandar Tunchev claimed no less than four out of the first five of these awards with the very first one going to Jack Hobbs. Steve Howard broke this trend following Tunchev's injury with keeper Tony Warner having an impressive March while Lloyd Dyer stole the show during the final month of the season.

It was generally midfielders who failed to impress with Lloyd Dyer claiming four consecutive flop of the month titles from December to March. Max Gradel failed to live up to his early promise with the September and August titles while Paul Dickov, Jack Hobbs and Joe Mattock all claimed one a piece.

The most consistent player went to someone different every month while the most inconsistent was often given to the most impressive player of the month with the really top performances hard to match on a consistent basis.

After solely winning the award for the first four months, Matty Fryatt failed to win an attacker of the month title after Steve Howard's second half of the season form kept him out of the picture.

nice work, la...

most interesting thing for me, is seeing the two cleverly midfielder of the month awards - during a time when practically every post was whining on about how much we missed davies

no doubt davies was class, but i think a lot of people got carried away with a couple of good performancess, whilst cleverly contributed a hell of a lot more over the course of the season...

Pretty clear why it was happening when you look at the results we were getting during those two periods. Davies made Oakley and King's jobs easier, while Cleverley was inconsistent and gave the ball away at least twice as much as Davies ever did.

Cleverley only really had two excellent games for us too - Walsall away and Cheltenham at home - and he must have played far more than Davies.

Great work Sheff.

Funny to see Lloyd Dyer flop of the month from November through to March, before nipping in to take player of the month for April/May. lol

There's no comparison between Cleverly and Davies. I can honestly see Davies playing for England one day, I doubt if Cleverly will ever get another game for ManU.
