Vardy and England

Recommended Posts

What is the fuss about Rooney? He has scored double figures every season he has played, having played in numerous positions. His record for United is impeccable and very good for England. Think it has more to do with him not fulfilling his potential, because he was better than Ronaldo at the same age, but hasn't quite lived up to maintain that accolade. He is still a world class player, but the problem is that he sacrifices himself for the team. As a striker you need to be greedy, but he likes to get involved too deep and set up attacks. If there were better quality players around him he would easily score 20/25 a season.

Cant believe anyone is doubting Rooney's position in the team, let alone the squad. On form, he's the best player we have by miles. Always used to say England have had 3 genuinely world class players recently, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Rooney. We have to build our team around our best players because, realistically, Roy doesn't pick solely on form. If he did, then he's a complete retard considering that he's ever picked Andros Townsend.

It has more to do with him not fulfilling the media hype as we do in this country, and then fans having a go at him when he doesn't score in three games. Apart from that Villa game he has been decent, some good link up play and should have had a goal today which was incorrectly disallowed. Anyone that looks at his stats will see how prolific he has been and successful, and how he makes the United team tick. Not buying the argument that he is undroppable yet he's shite. He is by far the only world class player England have and it's a shame there aren't a few more to support him, because at the moment he doesn't have that at club or country.

It's no coincidence his career has apparently stagnated with the decline of United. Scholes at 35 being the catalyst for the demise and the obvious Fergie factor. If you watch him play up front he gets isolated and has to drop deep to get involved. Also he is always forward thinking and therefore will lose the ball more than other players who play the safer passes. Even so, he usually is accurate with the ball and can play short and long.

He is the complete player, and whilst there are other players better than him, I wouldn't say there are many more all rounded players better than him. He is now a better player than he was 10 years ago, but he is not as explosive and uses his energy more wisely.

Is that the Media's fault or Rooney's? The Media's.

now the U21 players are free Vardy won't get a look in, Kane and Berahinho will replace him and Austin

Vardy plays for the top club in the Prem. Kane plays for a bottom half club Vardy has a goal and assist. Kane neither.

You're so wrong you've almost managed to loop back round to being right. Rooney doesn't sacrifice himself for the team, he simply does not fit, makes no attempt to fit but still gets picked despite being nothing more than a flat track bully whose not been on form for five years - the sooner England drop him, the sooner they can progress.

Fully agree. Playing around him/through him hinders us as when he's not on form (when was he last on form internationally?) the whole team suffers. Raw players like Vardy and Austin will get us more goals v san Marino than the likesof Rooney whose had his rawness coached out of him

You've highlighted my issue really. People talk about him for man utd where he's usually pretty bloody good. For one reason or other though as many have also failed, he doesn't repeat this form for England in tournaments. When he's poor he's shocking and to me its a position on the field wasted.

Whoever has tried to evolve him into some all round great instead of a shit hot striker playing off the last man has made a major balls up for England

When was he last 'on-form' though?

Rooney would be in my squad but he's not the player he was, and our approach of building around him has blatantly not worked.

Speaking of world class England players... Ashley Cole and John Terry. Those two were consistently very good for years. The ship has sailed but we didn't half miss Terry in hindsight.

If you're looking at current form I think Vardy's in the next squad, and possibly even Albrighton too.

The complete player? Compare him to Suarez and tell me he's the complete player.

Rooney is so overrated it's ridiculous. Always have been- over-hyped and overrated. Utd will win nothing with him leading the line and neither will England. Van Persie won them the league last time and before that it was the Ronaldo years. Now he's the main man he's proving how 'average' he is.

The last time I watched Rooney play and thought 'wow' was about 10 years ago how the **** is he on £300k a week? That's 7.5 times what Vardy earns
