Loved The Longpigs

By chance I just dug this disc out of the “never quite loved it” box and now I’ve played it every day for a week.  What a gem, just a bit off center with such big hooks.  I need to dive into that box more often.

No idea this thread existed. The Longigs - bloody hell.

I'd forgotten all about them. Saw them live in Leicester many moons ago.

Had a brief spell where them and Shed Seven were my two favorite bands..

Fvck me, the Shed men eh?  I saw them twice around the Maximum High period and they were my favourite also for a while.  Live in Glasgow now and saw they were still touring recently and was surprised they were still alive.  I walked past the O2 and saw their name outside and got pangs of nostalgia but obviously not quite enough to make me go as they are, in hindsight, pretty damn average but I got home anyway and listened to some of their new songs just in case but it was, as I had feared, sub Ocean Colour Scene blandness.  In the end I am very glad I didn't let nostalgia get the better of me and end up going as when I walked past the venue again on the day of the gig I have never seen such a bunch of 30 something, balding yet somehow still Gallagher haircutted, soft in the middle, Addidas Samba'd, still in skinny jeans despite the obvious weight difficulties, look young from a distance but close up tired, sad and desperate bunch of white men in all my life.  Basically, you know, a queue of reminders of my own sad decline into irrelevance.

Rumble circa 1996 though will always love listening to Bully Boy and wishing his acne would clear up so he could ask Louise Smith on a date.

Yeah man, I saw them a couple of times around that period too. I thought Rick Witter was cool as fvck (although not the best looking :P) but I loved his voice and the tunes were tops. Chasing Rainbows is one of my all time favorite tracks and I still get emotional every time I hear it on the radio

I haven't heard any of there new stuff and I'm not that bothered these days. I'd rather just have the memories of when they were at the top of their game. My gigging days are well and truly behind me :(

Great times though

Yeah I loved Chasing Rainbows too.  It's funny, those teenage years are so vivid and those songs never leave you but I am pretty much certain if I heard half that stuff for the first time as a 37 year old I would think it was all boring.  That is not to take away their place in my life though, those early bands/films/tv shows really do shape us and I will love them all forever.

Aye, I remember trying to get my hair like Rick but I always had really curly hair and I ended up with some king of shit, curly curtains.

Yeah me too, went to see Young Fathers recently who I thought were amazing and I saw Nick Cave who was incredible but that was a nice sit down old man gig.  I really think gigs are for the young to be honest and I hate going out these days.  I would much rather sit and home alone, in the dark and listen to music.  X
