Leicester 42nd Most Valuable Football Brand

Recommended Posts

Mods sorry in advance if this has been talked about, I couldn't find a post.

Back on the 15th June the Brand Finance report came out for the top 50 most valuable football brands worldwide and Leicester are 42nd, showing as a new ranking as they have not been in the top 50 before.

This shows two things, the first that the EPL is growing in financial stature that others cannot compete with, the second being that the owners are building a very strong brand for the club in both the domestic and international markets.

We talk about the club going places under the new owners, but this tends to be more so in football terms, should we not all bask in the glory of being the 42nd most valuable football brand on the planet....above the likes of Lazio, Sevilla, Werder Bremen and Sao Paolo!

I only see this improving through financial power gained from staying in the EPL and our strategy to market the club in Asia.

Full report - page 14 is where you want to look...

If we want to grow the club and become top 6 material then the club needs to build its brand value to generate larger advertising income, greater support outside of the county and create a larger pull for big name players. For us its about the club gaining interest from new markets to build more financial power to support the club and team in achieving goals they have set that none of us ever dreamed possible...Europe and a top 6 finish.

Brands are the most valuable assets many companies possess, takes Coca-cola, without the name Coke its just cola....apple is another brand people are loyal too no matter what the quality of a competitors product. Why do Coca Cola still continue to have TV advertising when its a worldwide name making billions? To continue maintaining its brand presence, thus continuing loyalty from those who purchase the product.

This loyalty to the "brand" from those who are not life long supporters unlike us is what gives the likes of Manchester United the financial clout to stay at the top.

If only I had managed to get past failing my GCSE's over 20 yrs ago...no education but brighter than most on here if they cant see the value in the club having a strong brand!

I don't really understand people who watch football and complain about clubs being referred to as 'brands', or the size of transfer fees or players' wages. It's the nature of the beast, we all buy into it. If you don't like it go and watch Wisbech Town or something.

Older times it was never so, but in the world we live in it is inevitable. Vichai didnt buy the club to just plow money into it, he saw the brand potential of a successful club in the Premier League for his brand King Power.

Quite. The modern game is as much about what goes on the pitch as goes on off the pitch. ;)

You need to type 'brand' one more time.

Of course I can see the value of a brand, I just hate the word in football.

But please, carry on educating everyone.

I know mate I was only joking. The brand is important in modern football but one thing I would say is that the growth in our brand has followed our success on the pitch and not the other way around.

I know mate, just surprised how many people are against the word "brand" in football. Your totally right on the growth following our on field success, if we were in the Championship we would not be on that list, its a given. What we want is continued success on the pitch coupled with growing support outside of the county bringing more finances into the club so we can push for that top 6 Vichai talked about a couple of years back.

Branding is a con!

But as long as so many people fall for it, then it will continue to be "valuable."

Suckers buy brands.

There was a time that a brand meant something and therefore was worth buying, for example, up until the 1990s, Nike or Adidas produced their products in their own factories, they were manufactured from materials produced in their own factories. This of course meant that if you were buying a Nike or Adidas product, you knew you were getting the best quality, they had proven that over the years.

But that my friends is no more , now those Nike shoes (or Adidas that i bought just yesterday) are made in massive (tax free) manufacturing suburbs in Thailand, Bangladesh and Malaysia. The materials are sourced from the cheapest possible suppliers. The machinists are not highly skilled workers, but just the poorest of the poor who the companies can afford to treat as little more than human machines.

The "cheap football shirts" thread is a classic example of logo's and the con they present to us. An official branded England shirt, purchased from the official branded sports store in Australia will cost me around $95-$125. On the other hand i can buy the unofficial (but still branded) england shirt from the manufacturer in China, the same shirt, the same quality the same markings and most likely made by the same machinists... for $12.50.. one TENTH the "cost" of the official product,

So, that is what the brand cost you... you pay 10x as much for something because of its brand, nothing else, no better materials, or workmanship, not employing people in your country, not helping your team out, you are paying ten times as much straight into the pockets of shareholders of Nike, or Adidas, Levis, Ralph Lauren, Stone Island.... etc etc etc

If "Brands" and what they mean are of interest to you... I highly recommend "No Logo" by Naomi Klein. (Rated M15+ contains intellectual concepts and socialist themes) :)
