The busiest run of the year: the next 7 games....

Recommended Posts

Bournemouth (H) (2/1)

Tottenham (A) (13/1, Wednesday)

Villa (A) (16/1)

Stoke (H) (23/1)

Liverpool (H) (2/2, Tuesday)

Man City (A) (6/2)

Arsenal (A) (13/2)

As well as 1 to potentially 4 FA cup fixtures. Tottenham (A) (10/1). Potential 3rdR: Midweek 19-20/1, 4th: Weekend 30/1, 4thR: Midweek 9-10/2???

That's between 8 and 11 games in 42 days. The next league game after Arsenal is 2 weeks later (27/2) with potential for a FA cup tie the weekend in-between.

It's a mixed bag. Easier January, brutal Febuary.
It's the next run that will define our season.
How many points can we realistically achieve? Can stay in the European places?

Ergh, why do these teams always come in bunches.

We'll be okay squad depth wise, we'll have Carillo, Milik, Amartey and Arias doing the business.

We actually have a weird (probably hard to follow) bit of luck with Stoke and Liverpool because they're playing each other in League Cup around our games. We play Stoke 3 days before they meet Liverpool in the 2nd leg. So as log as Stoke aren't blown away in the 1st leg at home, we could see a depleted side. Then we play Liverpool a week after with there also being an FA cup tie in-between. So as long as Liverpool don't blow it against Exeter City, they're playing at least 1 extra game and a cup tie.

Peeps should just enjoy the season, we are all but safe and have a very good team and manager.

Why does looking ahead mean one can't enjoy the season? People have targets in their minds of what they think can be achieved so it's quite natural to work out where the points might be coming from. It's not so easy to just say "we'll see what happens" when it's like this, especially if we're still in contention late in the season.

Bournemouth & Villa I think must be six points. Stoke at home I think there's a case for adding to that (especially considering some of the dross they've dropped points against). Liverpool at home I think you've got to view as being one you're looking to win too, for all they did us on boxing day I'm still not convinced they're that good, they're still horribly inconsistent.

Man City and Arsenal away I'd be delighted with two points.

Spurs away... I'd go nearer happy rather than delighted.

The cup game is going to be a bit of a write-off sadly. No point telling ourselves otherwise. I don't think Ranieri seems particularly bothered about the cups, that was the impression I got from the reaction to the Hull game, as well as the line-up. Add in the fact we play them in the league three days later and I think you'll see us trying to give away as little as possible. Jesus it really is the shittest draw I've ever seen.

Just looked at our fixture list. I'd actually be disappointed if we lost at home again this season. We probably will, but there's no single game there I'm going to look at and think I'll be shocked if we win. Man City was the hardest one we had remaining.

Bournemouth, Stoke, Norwich, West Brom, Newcastle, Southampton, West Ham all to come here. There isn't a single one of those I'd be happy with a point at home to.

I just can't bring myself to look down. Until they're neck and neck with us I'll look at Arsenal as bigger competition although there's no real logic pitting the two games against each other. I don't think anyone can really turn their nose up at a point from Tottenham away.

I didn't even consider the possibility of replays. We could seriously do without one in the fourth round if we get there given the two games it's between.

Yes agree but either way it will be reserves in those games so just keeps players happier and fresher playing more, i dont see replays as a massive issue.

I reckon....

Bournemouth (H) (2/1) WIN

Tottenham (A) (13/1, Wednesday) DRAW

Villa (A) (16/1) WIN

Stoke (H) (23/1) WIN

Liverpool (H) (2/2, Tuesday) DRAW

Man City (A) (6/2) LOSS

Arsenal (A) (13/2) LOSS

So 11pts from 7 games, enough to keep us comfortably in the top 4 but not enough to put us top.

Well, some people have been complaining about our lack of depth in squad and gotten themselves involved in very interesting debates about the talent, usefulness or skill of players such as Kramaric, Okazaki, Benalouane, King, Ulloa or Inler. This very busy period is the time for them to shine alongside other bench regulars such as De Laet, Schlupp, Dyer or Wasilewski and silence as many of their critics as possible.

As others have stated before me, we might even see some transfers coming in next month, so should then be covered in most, if not all areas.

Much will be down to attitude. If we approach every game with the same commitment Liverpool showed against us at Anfield then there's no reason the points shouldn't keep accumulating. If not we could drop them against anyone.

For me we've lost some of our pace, energy and attacking verve with the result that we're breaking more slowly now and in fewer numbers, while virtually relying on Vardy and Mahrez as our only goal threats.

Neither Albrighton nor Dyer have the same strength, raw pace and dynanism as Schlupp for all that, certainly Albrighton, is a more reliable and predictable footballer. We don't carry a threat from central midfield or from attacking full-backs so, for all our success, we're becoming increasingly vulnerable the more the pressure tells on our main men.

I'd sooner have a win against both. Not bothered about the Cup.

We've an attitude of indifference much of the time anyway and there's no way we'll achieve anything fighting on two fronts with a still-developing squad and far too-many periphery players at the moment.

If we get it right there's perhaps six or seven players should be on their way out and six considerable improvements coming in. It won't happen of course. We'll never sign 6/6 in terms of improvements, 'though I don't know why, and why would some players want to leave given the terms they're on?

But that would be the ideal, and perhaps for everyone, where their football is concerned.

Here we go again the old protegy of we haven't played anyone yet? The as soon as they play someone good they will get beat and fall away? The when their luck runs out their bubble will burst and they will be back to relegation fodder etc, etc.

The way our team is playing we have nothing to fear from any team in this league. We have played all teams now once and we have acquitted ourselves really well against all of them and barring Arsenal at home we haven't been stuffed by anyone.

I believe play as we are buy two possibly three players in January and we could go on to even challenge Arsenal, Man City for the title.

Tis a pity we didn't turn up away at Liverpool cos watching them last night at Sunderland they were awful. I believe we will beat them at home and pressure will both be on Man City and Arsenal to beat us when they are at home. Play as we know we can, we are capable of getting results their.

Went on an Arsenal forum yesterday and they were very complimentary about us when we played Man City. They were raving about Mahrez (i thought he was poor against City). Some even said how did we beat them 5 2.

Enjoy the season for what it is let's not worry about who, where, what and when. As the players have alluded to one game at a time starting with Bournemouth on Saturday bring it on.
