On The Sun vote Marhez is leading with 93% of votes from just over 12,000 votes cast!

That's ridiculous, gotta be someone hacking the poll.

Mahrez, as good as he has been, shouldn't be player of the year, he has been inconsistent at times, and lazy at others, the majority of the time he has been very good, but his moments of brilliance should not mask his poorer moments. Vardy, Kante, Drinkwater would all be ahead of him IMHO. No disrespect meant to Mahrez on his game he is a match winner, even when he isn't playing well he can still turn games in a moment, he is brilliant, but after a year of outstanding season long performances I would rate 3 players higher than him.

Seen something that said this has already been drawn and Alli has won it....

Is that not for the young player of the year? If it's for the overall player than that's a surprise!

Mahrez is deserving of it, he has already surpassed what Hazard did in the league last season when he won but with 13 games left and of course Vardy has been magnificent but he has the record so I can see why he's the bookies favourite right now!

Mahrez will absolutely piss it. He's been involved in 24 goals this season from 23 starts. It's outrageous for a midfielder.

Agreed. I also think the alleged inconsistency / laziness adds to the allure. Barney Ronay described him well the other day in the Guardian following the Man City game.

On a wet squally day Leicester’s skinny-legged conductor mooched about the pitch with malevolent purpose, a footballer of such insouciance you half expect to see him emerging from one of Leicester’s goal‑bundle celebrations with his bow tie rakishly dangling, tuxedo askew.

At times when Leicester have the ball with their goalkeeper or the opposition are attacking Mahrez will simply wander around, shoulders drooping, having acquired in the last few months the slightly aloof, lurking menace of the best creative players.

It also helps when you're the only player on your team capable of playing football, that he's dragged the rest of our talentless squad so far, sometimes without even playing. is testament to his talents.

11,500 of the votes cast from Algeria.

Hhh, yes actually I got the link from an Algerian forum....

When it comes to voting for their players, I can tell you Algerians get mobilized like ants for a large scale voting :P,

I read somewhere that for every Leicester game, there are about 5 million Algerians watching! :o

Maybe u r right Captain, but I think it's not about laziness and inconsistency , it's about productivity...Leicester possession is low but they DO win games and that's what matters...same thing with Mahrez, what matters is the abundance of the end product regardless of the manner and he is at 14 goals and 10 assist so far.

I agree he is lazy, but the stats from Man city game suggest him and Albrighton covered the most ground from Leicester team.... make of that what you will. Also mainstream media don't really see the true picture - it's just normally a case of who scores and who assists, everything else is meaningless.

I didn't say he was lazy, I said at times he had been lazy, and his two penalty missed could well end up costly, but then the goals he has brought to the team more than make up for it. Laziness isn't just about not running about, his pass accuracy for Man City was awful, and he had very few touches of the ball, he struggled to get into the game, but the two times he did we got 2 goals.

Genius, maverick, hero? Yes.

Player of the season? Not mine.

That's the big problem i have with stats. Pass accuracy is just a case of someone totalling how many times a player from one team finds a player from another team. It tells you nothing about what type of pass it was and how important that pass was. I will give you an example - Mahrez tried a long diagnol pass behind the man city full back zabaleta who just got a faint flick on it and it went out for a corner which we scored from.

That long diagnol pass would be counted as a unsuccessful pass and a statistic used by people who look at stats as one of riyads failings.... where in fact it led to the corner that led to the goal. Whereas someone from Man Utd defence might have a 100% ratiung for the last game, his passes might all have been useless unimportant sideways backwards passes to a midfielder standing 5ft away..... so that's what stats will tell you
