Alexikokopops Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 I'm getting smacked off my tits on ecstacy pipes and going to a dubstep festival a week today with my (former) neighbour. It says festival, it's one night. I know nothing about dubstep really except I should probably be on some kind of drug cocktail. This is going to be fun. Anyway, lets talk dubstep. I'm going to learn overt his next week and be an expert by Friday.
Daggers Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 Dubstep finished three weeks ago. You must be going to a Retro Dubstep one day festival. I love Retro Dubstep. Until teatime, and then it too will be out.
hairy Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 I love my dubstep. West Coast dubstep especially.
James. Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 DJ's who get the most publicity and play the crowd pleasing stuff - Benga and Skream. Producers I've been listening to recently are Vex'd and Boxcutter. Both done quality albums, Vex'd is proper nasty, dirty dubstep. Boxcutter is a bit more interesting, more intricate. Love dubstep at the minute. Like most genres you get exposed to the more mainstream stuff first but then dig a little deeper and find some really cool sounds. Try out the Vex'd album, I'm pretty sure you'll never have heard anything like it before. It's called Degenerate. And yeah it'll probably help if you're off your face on pills, ketamine, speed or a cocktail of all 3.
James. Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 I might actually go to that night. Scala is a f**king dive full of nobheads but the line up looks wicked. Distance is another artist who is meant to be quality. His album is called My Demons. Waiting for my eMusic allocation to come through and then I'm going to get it. Skreams album is quality, used that album to get my mate into it and he wont stop going on about Dubstep anymore. The 10 Tons Heavy stuff you sent me was really good too, forgot to let you know what I thought at the time.

Oh yeah 10 Tons Heavy. Well good album. There's another compilation on Planet Mu called 200 that's also meant to be good. Basically Planet Mu Records are producing some of my favourite ever electronic music, much of it dubstep or related to dubstep. Just need to make sure you have monstrous speakers or a decent pair of earphones to get the most out of it. Check out Vex'd for the harder end... If you were to ftp them (assuming that basically means I get to download them for free) then I would be forever grateful. Have you tried Boxcutter? I can return the favour if you wish. Glyphic and Oneric are both great albums.

James. Posted 21 November 2008 Share Posted 21 November 2008 I take it you're accepting this romantic date James? I'm so excited. Not half as excited as you'll be when you're eating your own face at 4am in the morning wondering quite how they managed to fill a dirty London club with the most amazing people you've ever met in your life.
