dog_4 Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 When he was first in charge of Leicester he had built the squad and stated he wanted to only add players that were above and beyond what was all ready in the squad. He was then linked with Edgar Davids,Jose Antonio Reyes, Robert Lewrondowski when he was at Lech Poznan and Charlie Austin when he was at Swindon Town. Unfortunately Nigel was later sacked for no reason. He then went to Hull city where he signed Robert Koren,Robbie Brady,Cameron Stewart who was one hell of a player before he broke his leg and John Bostock on loan from Spurs. In his second stint in charge of Leicester he apparently beat Benfica,Marseille and Newcastle to the signature of Anthony Knockeart. Also in his second stint he has been rumoured to be after Eziekel Fryers when he was available for £500k last summer, scouting Angelo Ogbonna whilst in Serie B for Torino! Now all of Europe's top clubs want him. Skysports had a funny newsfeed stating Real Madrid, both Manchester clubs,Arsenal and Leicester at the end are looking at 18 year old Adam Maher from AZ Alkmaar a few months ago! and last but not least when we were in the top 2 and heading for promotion he was looking at Darren Bent to spearhead the attack in the premier league! I feel we're in the same position now has we were 2 years ago. Now Nigel is confirmed to be staying it will be interesting to see if he unearths any more gems.
LCFC_Nige Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Steve Walsh is ****ing brilliant. His team, same difference
dog_4 Posted 18 May 2013 Author Posted 18 May 2013 when he wants some of the best players around Europe! Yeah! He's built the team, i think he will look yo add that flair and Experience! Vicente would be a brilliant example! Hopefully someone we're interested in...........
MooseBreath Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Jamie Vardy, Zak Whitbread, Marko Futacs, Jesse Lindgaard, Chris Wood, Harry Kane
Guy Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Hopefully he can learn from his mistake signings from a year ago or less such as the likes of Vardy, Futacks and arguably Whitbread - and instead sign some of the 'quality' such as the examples listed above this close season!
cjslcfc Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Do people really think Chris Wood is a bad signing? Some people do. Don't know why. I think they forget he's still a young player

Can't always get or afford your targets though & you have to look elsewhere Futacs & Whitbread were well worth signing for a) how much they cost b) type of players that were needed complimenting rather than duplicating what was already here. No, they didn't work out last season... But as Fergie has always said... The best you can hope for is better than 50:50,or words to that effect. I still think Vardy could be an asset to the squad, he was playing well before his illness & injury, holding ball up for midfield to get forward & Press in numbers, linking up well with Nugent & the wide men, didn't get the bounce of the ball in front of goal but still got 4 in 9 and did a shit-ton of work for the team, until his illness and injury and then when he came back the pressure/confidence got to him & he looked like a fish out of water
Aus Fox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Jamie Vardy, Zak Whitbread, Marko Futacs, Jesse Lindgaard, Chris Wood, Harry Kane A million on Vardy hasn't worked out so far, but wasn't the only one in this division interested. Whit bread and Fuctas frees on minimal wages always worth a gamble, lingraad and Kane on loan. Kane came with a big reputation and many myself included thought he'd work we'll, didn't quite happen. And wood 1 million and scored goals for us so not bad business at all. If this is the worst we do spend a million quid and get 5 players who it hasn't worked out for then that's not terrible. Also still think whitbread can be a good a player with a full pre season under his belt
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Steve Walsh is ****ing brilliant. This is what I don't get... People are happy to say 'Pearson has signed some rubbish' (McGivern, Nielson, Kermogrant etc are frequent names), but when he talk about our better signings (Wellens, Knockaert, Morgan etc) you're then happy saying 'Walsh is brilliant' etc. It's Nigel Pearson's team so he rightly gets the hammering when we lose or when he signs players who arn't good enough, but he should take the credit when we win and when he has signed good players (most of his signings are good players.) You cannot have it both ways.
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 In reference to the OP though, yeah I agree. Didn't he want Ricky Lambert here as well? He also signed James Chester for a small fee for Hull, and he is probably the best centre half in the Championship now. Also, he signed Hobbs for 400k (bargain).
Simmo86 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Makes me laugh when people slag Vardy and Whitbread off. Top of the league when those 2 were regulars
ratherbedeadthanred Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 werent we linked with that big black defensive midfielder from french ligue 2? forgot his name now but he was quite young
NathanC93 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Some people think Chris Wood is bad? LOOOOOOL. Bet they all thought that when he scored about 9 in 10 games for us too.
Dan Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 These aren't all true but I've actually heard every single name - I stand by Pearson, Walsh & Shakespeare would actually unearth some real gems in the top flight should we ever get there (not holding my breath). Lewandowski ffs. Jamie Vardy, Zak Whitbread, Marko Futacs, Jesse Lindgaard, Chris Wood, Harry Kane Wood is extremely harsh. He's not as good as what he first looked but hasn't he pretty much got 1 in 2? That's quality.

Proves nothing but an agenda and if anything it strengthens my faith in the bloke.I don't have any agenda but I would be happier if we were looking for a new manager right now. I'm not convinced he can get the best out of the talents he has, or will have. I also think people overrate a lot of players past or present. Mick mccarthy would get us promotion next year, would love to see this happen.
Head Honcho Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 The time for sacking Pearson is long gone.............we should have done it about 6 weeks ago. Keeping him is probably just about the right decision. Although if he was sacked I wouldn't grumble. I fear we're just delaying the inevitable though, as any sustained period outside of the top 3 would be Manna from Heaven for the perennial Pearson out brigade.
MC Prussian Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Jamie Vardy, Zak Whitbread, Marko Futacs, Jesse Lindgaard, Chris Wood, Harry Kane Vardy? Probably. Whitbread? Haven't seen enough of him to judge him on a few appearances. Futacs? Maybe. Showed that he can cut it, but then went into oblivion. Lindgaard? I don't even remember him being with us - wasn't he sent back after a short and unsuccessful loan period? Wood? Very harsh. I think he's a very good signing, if only we were playing for his strengths - he can't work with hoofballs at all, he's too skilled for that, he needs ground passes. Kane? Harsh. Against Watford at home in the playoffs, he was immense. According to Shakespeare, it took him a while to get acclimatized. Maybe a bit too late.

Lindgaard was poor - he didn't add any bite into our attack. Vardy should be sent out on loan to league 1 next season, gain some experience and confidence in the team Whitbread is a bit of a liability at times for me, he is still good on his day! Futacs is still young(ish) maybe on loan like Vardy or get rid off altogether! Wood's criticism is a bit harsh; I agree he hasn't been on form, but I thought the Bolton game was a turning point he played well (holding the ball up). Even against Watford (away) he was a better attacking force than Kane, I would be pissed off if I got substituted for him! I have not been impressed with Kane, he's had one good game in the play-offs. I acknowledge that he's been played out of position for most games ... maybe that highlights how bizarre Pearson's tactics can be!
KFS Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I think Lingard and Kane were just loans to enhance relations with their respective clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some of their more talented and more regarded players coming in now because they can trust us.
