Sv Werder Bremen - August 9th 2014 Pre Season

Recommended Posts

Leicester City will warm up for the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season by locking horns with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen at King Power Stadium on Saturday 9 August.

The 3pm kick-off is likely to be one of the last chances for the Blue Army to see their side in action before the opening day of the season, and should prove to be a good test of their Premier League credentials.

The four-time German champions have been a fixture of European football competitions over recent seasons, and with star names such as Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Claudio Pizarro and Ailton all part of previous sides, Bremen have become one of the biggest names in German football.

Manager Robin Dutt’s current squad features a host of talent from across Europe, including Argentina international and former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo.

Werder Bremen and Leicester City have met on two previous occasions. The first was on 13 August, 1966, when goals from Mike Stringfellow, Bobby Roberts and Jackie Sinclair gave the Foxes a 3-1 win in Germany, before Sinclair and Nick Sharkey scored in a 2-2 draw at Filbert Street on 1 May, 1967.

The exciting fixture becomes Leicester City’s third confirmed 2014/15 pre-season friendly, following the announcement of trips to Walsall on Wednesday 30 July (7.30pm KO) and Milton Keynes Dons on Monday 4 August (7.30pm KO).

Ticket details for the fixture will be confirmed on www.lcfc.com in due course.

Anyone know where Bremen finished this last Bundasliga campaign? Unless its Bayern or Dortmund it doesn't really excite me in any way…….and given the nature of friendlies even those aforementioned giants wouldn't make me desperate for a ticket

Had another poor season and finished 12th (I think).

Will be a good barometer of how good we are - certainly a winnable fixture against a team that should bring a few fans. I like.
