Time to expand the KP?

Recommended Posts

Looks like most games will be a near sell out this season. if we stay up, does anyone think it will be in our owners minds to expand the KP. Can't recall where we stand re the planning permission timing out etc.

If they are planning long term and we can stay in the top flight , imagine it would be a commercially attractive benefits case.

Let's not jump the gun, see where we are at the end of the season, if we are still in the prem, what attendances have been like, and forecasted attendances going forwards, interest will most likely take a dip for our second season in the prem.

We also need to consider what disruption would be caused by expanding the KP, if we can do it in the off season at minimal cost then we should look into it when we have been selling out all season for a couple of years. If it would require part of the stadium to be closed during the season, then it would have a serious impact on costs and require a lot more to recoup outlay.

In short: No!

The reason I think it's more relevant now than when it's been discussed in the past is because I wasn't in the country to get a season ticket this year despite going to most home games this season (i'm not re-igniting that debate btw)However, if we stay in the prem, renewals will be high next year meaning I've possibly missed the boat for years to come.

Shame people have to justify their reasons for writing stuff on this forum.

I'm actually slowly warming to the idea. If we did it - stick the extra tier on the East Stand (a bit like Leeds) and open it when necessary.

I'm convinced v Man City & Doncaster last season we could've filled 40k.

Doing it after we stay up may be a better idea though.

No one has to justify any thing. Anyone who takes the 'I'm a better fan than you' attitude is rightly shouted down.

Two words; Not yet.

The last thing we want is to put an extra 10,000 seats in, go straight back down and have a whole empty tier for Brentford on a Tuesday night.

Let's get established in the Premier League first. If anything needs doing to the stadium, it's a bit of TLC. Replace the faded seats, get rid of the manky banners around the stadium, give the whole place a lick of paint and sort the concourses out so it isn't all bare breeze blocks.

Not yet, lets wait until we get a couple of seasons over with first, a lot of the new ones have snapped up tickets for next year will be bored before too long and when they realise every game isn't like Donny at home in the sunshine celebrating winning a Championship.

If we are holding up 30k+ gates still in 3-4 years and are settled, go for it, but lets not jump the gun and buy the highchair before we've popped the question.

How about a temporary stand while they do it.

Where?

I'm not for or against expanding the stadium as i'm sure they would need to produce a business plan that included extra non football revenue to justify it but i just don't get this not until we're established as you can never guarantee that even after a couple of successful seasons.

Who would have predicted our demise when we commenced with the building of the KP, not many I suspect.

All the teams in the bottom half of the PL are one successful season away from relegation not matter how long they've been there.

My comment re justification was directed at those using a patronising tone of sarcasm towards my reopening the KP stadium extension discussions. I made the comment re being out of the country and attending most home games to avoid being targeted for not trying hard enough to get a ST. oh ok - Yeah spose I was justifying myself re that too subconsciously :-)

Pretty strongly against it before but the demand for STs has convinced me it's something we should seriously consider doing. There are definitely more people out there who'd have signed up for the season if they could have. Probably quite a lot too. We seem to have the potential for bigger attendances than I thought.

I think realistically right now we're just about at peak attractiveness, what with a return to the top flight after a superb season. Unless we can break into the champions league then it's all downhill from here as the novelty wears off. It looks like most games will be narrow sell outs so the capacity is pretty much perfect already.

If we get safe standing and or a big drop in ticket prices then we might be able to attract more fans. But for now I can't see where any additional demand is going to come from after this season.

Strange thing was though they had the next batch on sale for quite a while last week, we had thousands queuing on a wave of europhia, you have to see if that lasts before extending the stadium.
