TV games

Recommended Posts

This isn't 100% but someone on my Twitter e-mailed Sky asking for the date they release the first batch of TV fixtures (August-November) and they replied saying it was today, so we may find out something in a bit...

Today, Wednesday and next Monday are the three days to gather hope as I've seen people refer to those three specific days recently (though no consensus is not a good thing)

Agree on Chelsea, I expect that to be 12:45 on BT Sport if it does get selected.

Fully expect 2/3 of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United games to be moved.

I'd prefer home games to be moved for TV if I'm honest. Can't be doing with away games at Southampton or Newcastle being moved to a 1PM on a Sunday...

Everton game to get moved to midday on Saturday.

Has a small chance but will be fifth choice at best. Man Utd-Swansea, Liverpool-Soton, Burnley-Chelsea, West Ham-Spurs/Arsenal-Palace all have a bettwe chance simply because on the first round of fixtures both Sky and BT will want ratings pullers, and as dull as Man Utd-Swansea sounds it'll be the one they're scrabbling to get.

I'd love us to be picked v Everton and when the fixtures first came out I genuinely thought we were in with a shout but the more you look and read comments from people ITK the more likely it won't get picked.

If I'm wrong though  :frusty:

Don't want any games moved, personally i dislike Sky and feel they ruin football. For example does anyone remember when they moved the Sheffield Wednesday game last year? Kind of ruined the celebrations a bit, we had to celebrate at home!

There'll be 5 games shown live across Sky and BT (2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday and 1 on Monday) so the chances are higher than many think. Can't see Arsenal vs Palace being that more special than others. Would hate for our first match back in the Premier League to be put to Monday!

Yes, but we'll still be seventh on the list based entirely on ratings. Who are the biggest draws? Man Utd (Van Gaal too), Liverpool (no Suarez and with potentially three ex soton players), Arsenal (London derby), Chelsea (away to newly promoted team) Tottenham (London derby and ratings draw) Manchester City (the champions invariably get shown on opening day)

Of course we have a chance but we won't be high on the list and it'll be on whether Sky/BT want ratings or what could be perceived as a good game.

We could well be live and if it was I'd reckon it'd be either 17:30pm game or the MNF match. BT won't go with us first up, no chance.

It wouldn't be so bad if they moved the everton game to saturday midday, but if they moved it to Sunday then that would kinda put a dampen on atmosphere, no one likes travelling on a sunday. Atmosphere on Sunday games don't normally turn out great. Typically you can imagine the Chelsea game being moved to a sunday tea time which would kinda bugger you if your planning on going by train.

It's the Monday nights that are gonna be the real fckers. Tuesday nights are all right as well as a Saturday fixture but having a game on a Monday night instead of a weekend fixture is beyond shit. Hopefully we don't get many.

Everton at home being a Sunday 1:30 is an absolute nightmare kick-off if it happens. I'm struggling to remember a good atmosphere for a Sunday 1:30 game. That or a Monday is absolutely terrible.

From a selfish point of view I'd be happy if Stoke was moved as I can't make the Saturday. Why did my Mum think it was acceptable to get married when we had Stoke away? Needs to sort her priorities out.

I'd also be happy if Chelsea was moved as the lure of our first away game back in the top flight will make me want to go, but I don't want to pay that price so I'm not, the game being on TV would soften the blow.

I think the Everton game will be left alone, as someone pointed out earlier Sky/BT will want to show the top 4 plus Man Utd, they get the newly promoted interest with Burnley Chelsea.

What will be interesting is that if we are safe by March or don't look in any danger I can't imagine many,if any, of our home games will be moved in April and May unless the opposition are in relegation trouble.

Yes, very good point.

We will be shown a minimum of 10 times live this season. (38 times live in many other countries though  ) and I'm sure at least one of each will be in the separate time slots as there are minimum quotas. So we're guaranteed a 12:45, 17:30, 13:30, 16:00 and 20:00 KO this season on TV.

However as you say if we're striding to tenth then the only way we'll be live is if we are the opponent of a team battling to go down or (more likely) battling for the title. Of course that means the TV coverage will be abysmal as we'll be nothing more than fodder and will barely get a mention.

Can't be bothered to do the research (especially as nothing has been announced yet) but remember also that any games against UCL teams before the next round of CL matches will have to be on a Saturday if they play on a Tuesday night, but can be a Sunday if they play Wednesday.

Incidentally, we might have three fixtures moved for the Europa League this season. Looking at our fixtures with the confirmed dates of the EL this season.

If Everton get through to the Round of 32 our away game on the 21/2 would be moved to the Sunday (or as MNF if Sky wanted us live) as the first leg is the 19/2

If Hull City get through to the Round of 16 our home game on 14/3 would be moved to the Sunday (or again as MNF if Sky wanted us live) as the first leg is 12/3

If Spurs get through to the Round of 16 our away game on the 21/3 would be moved to the Sunday (or MNF) as the second leg is 19/3

Will be surprised if our match against Everton gets moved for TV. Sky/BT are very predictable. I'm almost certain that they will pick the "big five" teams as the opening live TV fixtures. I predict the Man C, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal & Man U games will be shown.

Shite weren't it. Woeful attendance and atmosphere though expectations were low at that point. I think even a Sunday 1:30 won't kill the excitement of our first top flight game in 10 years.
