Central Midfielder?

Recommended Posts

Been a bit of debate on this. With the signings of Ulloa & Campbell looking imminent, after those two signings, should we turn our attentions to buying another central midfielder.

There's been quite a few comments saying we need one, and quite a few comments saying, remain with James & Drinkwater, and keep on playing two in the middle.

So do we need another central midfielder? If so what type and who?

And if you don't agree, why should we stick with two in the middle in James & Drinkwater?

I agree, defence is a worry still...

Personally would like to see another loan return of Miquel, centerback and left back. Buy another quality right back (Someone if the calibre and age of Sam Byram) and then finish off the mid-field.
Would love to know whats happened to these Nick Powell rumours….. one can hope!

I wouldn't look into buying another CM, but a defensive midfielder and/or an attacking midfielder. I reckon it's a bad decision to separate the James/Drinkwater marriage that they share yet it'll be great to assist them by having defensive cover whom can also strengthen our defensive side of the team. I reckon that's a pivotal area to look at...

An attacking midfielder may be great too but I think we can just use/play around with one of our foreign wingers who can easily fit in the hole.

I didn't know that….. SIGN HIM UP!!!!!

I think it'd be better for his career if we didn't, in honesty. The boy needs regular first team football, he's played depressingly little first team stuff for a chap his age, he often didn't make the squad in the Championship, can't imagine his chances increasing in the top tier.

There is that, but then some players never get first team football and thats the most they will ever do

….Look at whitbread, never will be a first team player no matter where he goes, but is always a consistent sub and does a good job at it

I like the Iggy to be honest, looking at his arsenal record though, seems to be very unlucky that he only ever got played in games where they knew they were going to loose…..

Sign him and loan him out?

I'm pretty sure some sides are more likely to sign him on loan with their attitude of 'Oh, he is at a premier league club, he must be decent'.

Surprised we still have was and also signed upson when miquel, a much younger guy with potential was available.

We need one more probably, I don't have alot of confidence in King or Hammond if they were needed to come in.

Our left side concerns me the most though. We only have 3 wide players all of which prefer to play on the right, and I can see Mahrez going to the ACON in January so we're going to be short even if we have no injuries. Then there's the left back situation, if Schlupp can step up then great but if he doesn't then we're in trouble.

Personally I would have liked another one, 5 CB, 5 CM, 5ST is what I'd take with 2 covering each of the other positions.

James is fantastic, but whilst I'm not the biggest King fan it was him and Drinkwater in the middle for pretty much all of the start of the season up until I think December (without checking) when James came into the team. So we were still top with those two in the middle.

Hammond always looked off the pace for me, he'll need to step up his game.

To be fair, when you play as little as he did you're always going to look off the pace.

You only have to look at james during our first season with us, he looked pretty average during the first few games, but after about 5 he has improved every single time he has played.

Someone should have told the Algerian coach the fool, fancy playing him left wing, him getting MOTM and setting up two goals.

Just because we chose to not playing there all the time, (mainly down to having an inform Lloyd Dyer). Does not mean they aren't capable of playing there. Playing someone left footed on the right, or someone right footed on the left is usually a tactical move and not just done so because they are incapable of playing on their natural side.

Schlupp and mahrez will be lost to the ACON…. a very big worry for our left side!

I still think we will be starting the Everton game with the Drinkwater, King, James trio. Don't know if they're good enough, though.

And 100% this trio, people don't seem to rate andy king for some reason, but only because we've not been playing him in his best role, and thats bang in the centre behind the strikers and in front of the midfield, his work while off the ball cannot be underestimated

He's not going to get games though. He was a yard short of pace constantly and we need someone who can come off the bench and do a job, or fill in for a few games.

for me the prority is a pcey centre back to play alondide Morgan, then a central midfielder  i think we will play 4-2-3-1, therefore 5 midfielders  behins Ulloua from Drinky James, Kockaert Mayrez Albrighton Vardy Nugent maybe Campbell

Agreed. Buy you cannot complain about somebody being 'off the pace' when he isn't getting game time.

It doesn't matter whether he is 40, 30 or 20. If you are coming off the bench for 5 mins a game you're always gonna be off the pace.

A left back I'd the top priority in my opinion. Followed by a beast of a midfielder and a pacey centre half and I'll be happy.

I wouldn't feel confident with Konch or Jeff starting in the prem and though our midfield is awesome I do think we might well need someone to kick the opposition around and protect our silkier players - especially in away games. I think Wes will make the step up to the prem but I'm less sure about Was and Moore is still a work in progress so a quick centre half to compliment Wes would be ideal.

Priority is a left back but I do think we need a defensive/holding midfielder. im surprised that were about to sign ulloa and Campbell for 2 reasons because I don't rate Campbell but mainly that will mean we got nugent, wood, vardy, ulloa, and Campbell for a possibility of 1 playing position if we play 4-5-1 like pearson suggested at back end of last season.

Havent we just invested in Upson..???, how many centerbacks do people think we can afford.

Any top CB will be wanting playing guarrantees.

Plus I trust Schlupp, I am predicting he will have a great season.
