West Ham footballer Ravel Morrison remanded in custody over assault

Ravel Morrison was sold to West Ham for £650,000 in January 2012
West Ham footballer Ravel Morrison has been remanded in custody accused of punching and slapping his ex-girlfriend and her mother.

Mr Morrison, 21, of Urmston, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of common assault. He was refused bail.

He is alleged to have assaulted Reah Mansoor, 19, and Parveen Mansoor, 39, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He is due to appear at the same court on 7 August.

England caps

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At about 3.20am on Sunday police were called to an address on Alexandra Road, Peel Green, Salford, following reports a 19-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman had been assaulted.

"Officers attended and established the young woman had also been assaulted outside a bar in Manchester city centre earlier that evening and a 21-year-old man was subsequently arrested at a later date."

The midfielder was widely tipped to become a Manchester United regular as one of the club's best home-grown prospects in their youth teams.

He was sold by former boss Sir Alex Ferguson to West Ham for £650,000 in January 2012.

He has since been loaned by West Ham to QPR and Birmingham City.

The 21-year-old has won four England Under-21 caps.

West Ham have declined to comment.

He hit two women !!! Proper pisstake that.

You do realise common assault is the lowest on the scale of harmful crime. Nothing has been proven yet so you can't say what he has or hasn't done. He's only been kept in custody because he's a footballer. He's not even gonna face prison if he's found guilty, that's how low the charge is in the whole scale of things.

Yes, because no-one has ever been remanded into custody for an offence of common assault before...

He can face up to six months imprisonment. Do you know the full circumstances?

Many reasons why bail can be refused anyway.

Yeah 6 months max which considering he's never been found guilty of a similar crime is highly unlikely.

The amount of aggro that happens on a weekly basis in city centres up and down the country and you think people are regularly held in custody for a week for common assault? If it was any normal person he would have been charged and released with a date to show up in court.

Yes everyweek in the city centre you see a young lad punching and slapping two women (unless Joe Mattock is around)

Mattock was done for affray (worse than common assault) he wasn't remanded in custody and didn't face a custodial sentence when found guilty. Police are clearly out to get him.

The only realistic reason he's been kept on remand is so that he can't get his ex girlfriend to drop the charges. Police want a conviction here clearly.

Or they might have took into consideration his previous for witness intimidation, assaulting his own mother and two previous cases for assaulting the same girl he has attacked this time.

He's been found guilty of witness intimidation. He's been charged 3 times previously and they've all been dropped. He's clearly got issues but compared to other footballers with convictions it's not the worst rap sheet. He's not on the level of the likes of Ched Evans, Marlon King, Titus Bramble, Gary Medine etc.

He hits women, he's a cnut.

That's such a sweeping statement though why are women any different from men? So your saying if a woman became violent towards you and started throwing punches and tried to fight you that you would let her? If a bloke did the same you would be raging but because it's a woman she's allowed?
