wiltshirefox Posted 27 August 2014 Share Posted 27 August 2014 When we hit a Bad patch this season, which we probably will , there will probably be the usual calls for the manager to go. However looking at the situation at Palace this week where they have scrabbled around for a manager and ended up with Warnock ( sacked from last two jobs) shows that there not many good quality experienced managers available and we would end up with a " fire fighter " like manager coming into to do a short term job. In contrast Pearsons long term approach in areas such as scouting and sport science and his record with with us in the his 4 complete seasons ( two championships and two narrow playoff defeats) suggest that even if we were relegated this season we would be better off keeping Pearson, as he would likely take us straight back up and continue to build the long term foundations of a successful club. I thought this was going to be making the opposite point haha. After the job Pulis did for them last year.

Dan LCFC Posted 27 August 2014 Share Posted 27 August 2014 Well said, it's just a shame that we, like many other clubs, have a high proportion of fans who can't look past the last 3/4 games.

ADK Posted 27 August 2014 Share Posted 27 August 2014 Our only problem will be lack of signings, something that can't be sorted until January anyway. I don't believe anyone else will get more out of this squad.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 28 August 2014 Share Posted 28 August 2014 While I think the majority of the fans will get behind Pearson regardless (within reason, 1 point after 18 games, say (won't happen) then even his biggest supporters at the club will think hang on a minute) it's the owners who will make these decisions. Staying in the Premier League is paramount, if they don't think he's going to do it they will sack him, same as every other owner in the Premier League. Good post. It is a chilling thought that Neil Warnock was just out there, waiting to pounce on a vulnerable club. I think Palace and WBA are nailed on for relegation, so we just have to avoid the third spot. Ultimately though, it’s the Board and owners who have to stay strong. Fans will always want a manager sacked. It’s just become the mob mentality of people who lack the capacity to see further than the ends of their own noses. Our club is no different from any other in that respect. Hopefully our Board has learnt from its mistakes and will ignore the ‘black-tinted spectacles brigade’ even if we begin to struggle. DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 August 2014 Share Posted 28 August 2014 I would stick with Pearson too if we get relegated, as long as the season isn't one long horror story of embarrassment. He knows the club, and he knows the players, and will have learnt more about life in the Premiership.

I said this toward the end of last year, even if we were to fail I think he'd deserve another go at it unless, like you said, it was a disaster. MattGamble92 Posted 28 August 2014 Share Posted 28 August 2014 There is still people who unbelievably still dislike Pearson as a man, so they are just waiting for the day they can come on here and point out his lack of premier league experience. wiltshirefox Posted 28 August 2014 Author Share Posted 28 August 2014 The hot favourite for the first premier league job that comes up will be Tony Pullis. I don't think I would want him over Pearson.
