U2 giveaway new album on iTunes

Recommended Posts

I've lost interest in U2 some twenty years ago. That's the last time they came up with a decent album (Zooropa). Everything else that followed were mere platforms for Bono to rip off fans with his self-obsession and eagerness to promote himself.

The latest stunt is nothing more than another attempt at getting some much-needed publicity (and reach). U2 have been brilliant living off their past successes, whilst stalling in musical terms. They've pretty much become redundant.

Yesterday's lip synching show (covered by the low light) put the final nail in the coffin - they can't even be arsed to play live promoting their newest album anymore.

Though the album is free for listeners, the band and its label, Universal Music Group, didn’t just give their product away.“We’re not going in for the free music around here,” Bono joked on stage.  Apple didn’t pay a traditional wholesale price for each of the 500 million albums. Instead the company paid Universal and U2 an undisclosed lump sum for the exclusive window to distribute the album. Universal plans to piggyback on the big push for “Songs of Innocence” to promote the band’s 12 older albums, a critical factor for a veteran rock band.

'Undisclosed sum' is supposedly $100 million

Agreed. Loved U2 around the Achtung Baby / Zooropa era. The Fly is their greatest single imo. Been poor since then.

I've heard complaints via social media that it's found its way into their ITunes without them deliberately downloading it.

"U2 have done a gigantic shite into my computer in the form of their new album".

I've also read claims that it cannot easily be deleted. If true then this could be an exciting new way of forcing unwanted products on a disinterested public. I don't use ITunes so I expect I'll have Bono attempting to thrust his tiny penis through my letterbox before long

I like some of their hits, "Vertigo", "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Beautiful Day" etc, but I've never been that much of fan that I'd go out and get their albums.

I think they've already gone for the force unwanted products deal - My (Very old) computer in 2009 would just start playing Gordon Brown speeches, even when nothing was open or running except solitaire. I'd actually prefer that to Bono though.
