Match Ratings : Argentines Combine to Earn First Premier League Win

Leonardo Ulloa won his first man of the match award after scoring the winner to help City claim their first Premier League victory since 2004. Former Inter Milan & Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Cambiasso made his City debut with an excellent 45 minute introduction to English football, with his classy display earning him a slightly higher rating from those who voted. However Ulloa's extra minutes on the field saw him take the well-deserved award that he is arguably overdue after scoring his third goal in four games.

 

Liam Moore continued his superb start to Premier League life with another committed display, while there have to be honourable mentions to Moore's senior partner and consistent performer Wes Morgan, Cambiasso's fellow half time substitute Danny Drinkwater who was instrumental in settling things down during the second half, and stand-in keeper Ben Hamer who despite some wayward kicking made an excellent double save at the death to deny Stoke an equaliser.

 

The three worst performances were given to the three substituted players, which also explains why manager Nigel Pearson received a higher rating than any of his team thanks to the boldness of the half-time substitutes he made in changing the midfield and taking off the underperformers. Unsurprisingly, Pearson's confidence rating remained very high with little change from the previous match.

 

The Foxes faithful were not particularly impressed by the Potters who received a mediocre rating after failing to convert much of their pressure into clear cut opportunities, with only a small number of the 20+ shots remotely testing Ben Hamer in the City goal. The referee received a decent enough rating after not buckling in an atmosphere where he was put under a lot of pressure by the home support throughout the 90 minutes.

 

Note: Following some constructive feedback from voters, it has been decided to show the original rather than weighted averages, but to continue selecting the man of the match using the weighted results. This is to keep consistent with the approach so far, but also show exactly how everyone voted so those who prefer the man of the match to be voted as is can see the original results. It's clear there is no right or wrong way to show the results but as long as one consistent method is used, then hopefully the above approach should prove fair over the course of the season.

Manager Confidence : 98.81% (down 0.12%)

 

This is going to sound really stupid, but how is the confidence calculated? Surely if it fluctuates, like it has been doing, then it isn't a true representation? If 100 people vote one week, then the next week 150 people vote, then does it really go "down" or "up"? 

 

I just don't understand how it drops after another brilliant performance and a solid win. Good work though, it's interesting to read so keep it up.

I can only think the people who vote 'no' are having a laugh. You'd have some work to do to manufacture a reason for wanting him out atm.

I assume those who voted the manager rating down left at half time and didn't check the final result or second half substitutions.

For manager rating I will assume that it is down because it was an away match not on TV so fewer people saw it and so fewer people voted, thus that one wag/wum/moron's vote carries more weighting.

As for the match ratings, I know they weren't the only ones away, but the three bottom performers were all away on international duty. Stoke rested Diouf should we have rested Mahrez and Schlupp particularly as they had a long way to travel and differing climates and time zones to play in?

Morgan obviously wasn't affected and he travelled just as far as the other 2, but he is more experienced and isn't a 'fast player'. I thought Rodgers' comments about Sturridge were interesting on how he gives the fast players more time to recover as the way they play takes more out of their bodies. Likewise Liam and U21.

King really shouldn't have been overly exerted having just popped over to Andorra but he was playing at altitude and it was an unnecessarily hard game for the daffodils. Or it was just one of his off days.

When we have so many good options do you think Nige will look to protect the likes of Mahrez and Schlupp after internationals?

I wouldn't read anything into the manager confidence going up or down when its by anything less than 1%. I'll always get the odd 2 or 3 who vote against the grain, just like there'll always be people who will give all 1s or all 10s to the players.

 

Thankfully as we get a few hundred votes every game, these 'extremists' are largely nullified.

I agree about King. Was surprised to see him when I heard his name read out. Not just that he played in Andorra, but that pitch Wales played on looked bad/heavy as well. Thing is though, he had been playing well for us (as his Hammond). Did think King might go at half time though, as he did, and Drinkwater looked good in, what seemed to be, an advanced role.
