Anthony Knockaert

Recommended Posts

It seems to me like the lad is falling down the pecking order a little?

Is he injured or just not in favour at present?

Nigel is a great user of his squad, so Im sure young Anthony will feature again. But is he good enough? Will he play much? Or maybe will he be looking for a way out in January if he doesn't play?

Not knocking him (no pun intended), simply seeking opinion.....

Still think he has a part to play. Places like Stoke and Chelsea away wouldnt suit him as he lacks physicality and that extra yard of pace.

At the moment I wouldn't have him in the side, but games such as West Brom, Burnley, Aston Vila etc, particularly at home I would say he has an important part to play.

So basically play him against the not so good teams...

He'll still have a place to play in the squad. He seems a likeable character as well, someone Nige wouldn't want to get rid of.

He started against Everton didn't he? And they are the games he'll play in imo. He's not the type of player to play away at Chelsea and Stoke. No doubt we'll see him again soon, especially with Burnley etc coming up.

Mahrez is a better player, Schlupp is playing great and offers more defensive cover and Albrighton looks solid offering a bit more physicality and defensive cover. So he, like other players are going to have to play out their skin when given a chance. We have no time to wait for players to hit form by giving them several games this season

I predict a riot!

I think he's done enough for us to deserve a chance. He's been a breath of fresh air the past couple of seasons and has provided a lot of excitement and has shown that he cares a lot about this club.

He does however have to recognise that his place is no longer guaranteed and he will have to be at his very best to stay in the team/squad. We really can't carry anyone based on sentiment

wonder what he does on his summer holidays, 3 seasons he's been here, 3 seasons he's started on the bench or not at all, despite obviously being good enough to start on the pitch.

I'd wondered the same thing, Scouse. Maybe he takes longer than others to recover full match fitness? Wouldn't be a surprise as so much of his game is about beating his man in tight spaces.

Alternatively, maybe each season he needs time for NP's messages about not giving away possession and using his abilities to benefit the team to re-penetrate his skull. He seems a cheerful, well-motivated lad, but not the brightest spark....but he's come good again every season before.

Agree with this. I can see him suiting matches where the opposition sit deep behind the ball and we need something different, like Knocky's trickery, to break them down. In matches like that, there's also less danger of us ending up under constant pressure for several minutes if he loses possession - and he will sometimes lose possession, even at his best, due to his style of taking on opponents in enclosed parts of the pitch.

So, Bergamo Fox has it right, I think. He's more likely to play against weaker teams, or at least teams that stick men behind the ball, which is likely to be the weaker teams.... As there are fewer of them in the Premier League, he might well get less game time. How he reacts to that, only time will tell. I could see him being used as an alternative option from the bench for the last 25 minutes in tight games, too.

Mahrez has hardly set the world alight either tbf

If other players in the team were more clinical he'd have 2 fantastic assists now, hardly average for his first 4 games, don't think putting Arsenals and Evertons defenses on their arses multiple times is all that below par for a young lad stepping up to this level either.

Very good point, to the neutral observer it does seem that he doesn't appear to be at full fitness on his return from the summer break given selection and performance (you have to wonder if he would have started against Everton had we had this squad to choose from at the time).

Other reason of course could be that we just have better players now, he certainly wouldn't merit a place in the side at the minute and his performance against Everton did worry me, he looked either well of the pace or out of his depth.

Dafuq?

Knockaert hasn't warranted a place in the starting line-up yet but neither have the other wingers bar Mahrez. Schlupp has looked a donkey, his cross against Arsenal aside, and Albrighton has done absolutely nothing so far.

I don't think Knockaert's a natural winger, I never have done and I never will do (he's not quick enough for a start) but he's good enough to play if he pulls his finger out.

We've had 4 games and yet we've had about 6 threads about Knockaert not playing/not being good enough. That strikes me as a bit weird.

He can't get in because the team is playing well at the moment so there's no need for a change. He will be very useful though. When Schlupp and Mahrez fly off to the African Cup of Nations then I'm sure we will see more of him.

He will play his part.

I thought he was too much of a liability against Everton. If I remember right two misplaced paces were swiftly turned into Everton attacks. Not what we need against Angel Di Maria, etc., I expect to see Knocky get some playing time as a sub when we are two or more goals up or down. Not that I am any sort of expert!
