DennisNedry Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 Hi guys, looking for some good ol' advice from the FT community. Currently with Sky. Looking to change provider as we are paying too much with them as we've been there years and all of the offers are for new customers only. Also, the router we have with them is 7 years old and constantly losing internet connectivity and having to be reset, switched between ports etc and Sky have refused to replace it. Obviously if we go elsewhere you get a good router as part of the deal. Only other ISP to avoid for us is TalkTalk, as they were bloody awful to us when we were there before. We've had a look as Plusnet but have seen endless negative online reviews for them so will stay clear. Considering BT, Virgin, etc. All we need really is unlimited broadband (no TV or phone deals, and no fibre optic). Cheers!

DB11 Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 Depends where you live and how far away from the exchange you are. Different ISPs will be more favourable depending upon where you live - check each ISP's signal strength in your post code area on their website

foz.foz Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 We are on Virgin. Lots of people don't like them but with every device in our house wanting some wifi (phones, tablets xbox, TV's etc), Virgin fit the bill.. Edit 2 add.... Netflix is on a lot as well
m4DD0gg Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 I would stick with Sky mate, if you have been with them for 7 years you have built up a considerable amount of loyalty with them. Give them a ring and try and get hold of a senior sales advisor and explain the situation you are in. They will more than likely sort you out some discounts and new equipment. Sky have a truly unlimited download experience and no throttling unlike virgin. Their fibre service may be more expensive but it is worth it. If speed is your thing and you live in a cable area then move to virgin.
Ross-Kemp Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 Virgin every day of the week. I have fibre optic running at about 80meg.

Virgin fibre-optic never gave us any problems in 2 years at the old house and always very fast and reliable.

AoWW Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 With BT at the moment and happy enough. Speeds are pretty crap but that's the same with all providers here - mind you, I do live in the middle of nowhere!
Finnegan Posted 21 September 2014 Share Posted 21 September 2014 Virgin fibre optic. 152mb (I'm clocking about 148, close enough for me) reliably. Find me that elsewhere on the market. Monster.

You can't get that elsewhere but virgins network doesn't reach 60% of us.

So incredibly jealous of UK's broadband speeds... i was getting a slow 20mbs when we live there. Now here in OZ.. im getting "fast" adsl 2.... at a great speed of 2.4mbs

foz.foz Posted 22 September 2014 Share Posted 22 September 2014 Virgin superhub is dreadful for usbang it in modem mode and buy yourself another router of ebay. I use a tp-link one. Not how it "should be" but it works better than it should.
