First five matches comparison

Recommended Posts

Was looking at the comparison with our first five matches of previous seasons, and this one compares extremely favourably.

Since 2009, this is our record:

2009/10: 8 points (2 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat)

2010/11: 2 points (0 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats)

2011/12: 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats)

2012/13: 6 points (2 wins, 0 draws, 3 defeats)

2013/14: 10 points (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat)

So only last season did we have a better points return than this time around. It is equal to 2009/10 and better than the other three.

Just shows what progress we have made and how well we've adapted to the step up. In addition, 9 goals is the most prolific in these seasons and equals our return from the first five matches in League One.

There are no easy games in the Prem, we are only 5 games in lets try not to get to carried away like the players are all saying just take one game at a time till we hit the magic 40 points then we can feel safe

There are no easy games in football. Nige will take it one game at a time, he will have this drummed into the players. They'll also probably know this from last season, too.

It's scary. It's got to be our best start ever considering the opposition?

Considering the opposition, has anyone really made a more impressive start than us this season?

I think we've made the best start, 8 points from five of the top nine last season.

It means absolutely nothing unless we build on it.

I know, just found it interesting as it's usually considered that a team like ourselves would make a better start in the Championship than the Premier League. The team have exceeded probably all expectations in these five matches.

Darn right. No good resting on on our laurels. Hull in 09/10 had something similar to us (Not as difficult, but had some good teams in there.) They had the same results we did, and in fact won the next four in a row. They finished 1 point above relegation. Let keep this up for the full season.

The thing when you get off to a good start like we have against top opposition some of the fans are going to expect it to just be smooth sailing "well if we drew with everton and arsenal beat Stoke and United and lost to chelsea who will probably win the title then this is going to be simple"

From all the interviews I hear the players giving they are just taking 1 game at a time, focusing on the next game, there teams strengths and weaknesses and how to exploit them. Sure its nice to have a good win and enjoy it for a day but Nige and his team are working really hard to keep the players focused and it seems to be working out so far but the real test of how we are doing vs other teams is going to be are position at christmas
