Powell and Lawrence

Recommended Posts

I dont think Powell should start. Vardy with Ulloa would be better.

Lawrence could start definitely. Schlupp is a bit mental, Knocky still looks sheepish.

can Lawrence play on the Left i thought he was a Striker, Powell is a Midfielder but not really sure of his defensive qualities i thought he was a AM

Ah right. I always though Lawrence was a left winger?

I kinda wish we got an extra left winger during the summer.

Would definitely have these two involved for Swansea.. and start Simpson at right back. Don't shoot me down but could RDL ever be deployed as a right winger???

RDL definitely could do a job on the right wing. Been thinking this ever since we signed Simpson

Time to get them involved?

Lawrence and Mahrez out wide with Powell behind ulloa sounds like a good option to me

Sounds like a good option? Based on what exactly, certainly not based on seeing them train or play obviously.

Why is it, the second a few results go against you people want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Any player currently not starting is made out to be better than they actually are.

RDL definitely could do a job on the right wing.

He can't cross for shit though, how many bad balls have we seen him put in from right back?

I can understand some talk about Simpson for RDL but I am more concerned about LB to be honest? Konchesky gives me a heart attack every time he goes near the ball and has created SFA for the majority of the season and who is his back up - Schlupp who is next to useless apart from one decent cross and a goal he couldn't blast into the third tier save for the fact he was on the six yard box! 3 feet further out and that would have been a goal kick.

Don't forget his dodgy back pass where Cisse should have scored.

I'm not a Konch fan and believe were better with Jeff playing there, although he started well he is getting more inconsistent again and becoming a liability. I think he has only played that position so far in merit of 'premiership experience' but think if he plays on Saturday Dyer will rip him apart

On the Konchesky thing, I really would like to try Simpson in for him. He was okay in the games where we were defending for long periods, but I think Simpson can offer this, as well as an overlap for whoever is on the left hand side. Pace at both full back positions would be massively handy.

Powell's workrate and laziness has been questioned both on United boards and by those who watched him in our development games. Swansea will play from the back and we'll need to hassle them, we need a nugent or a vardy. Not sure it's the time for Powell. Think he'd be much more suited for WBA at home the week after.

As I understand it, Lawrence isn't the ready article yet. Needs a lot of work to be at Premier League level - so no chance of starting for us. Using him as an impact player in the second half could work though.

The absence of Powell is a bit strange/worrying. If it is true that there are concerns about his work rate then it might be a rare mistake/oversight by those who decide our transfer policy. If there is one constant about Nige's "type" of player then it is a great attitude towards working hard. I guess the lateness of the deal might suggest that he was offered late in the transfer deadline and we simply thought "why not", he did ok at Wigan? Pure speculation, of course.

In any case, while I'm surprised that he hasn't been involved, I always thought Powell would only be an option for cover, somebody to throw in, rather than a player who would walk in the starting XI. Maybe our last three performances might see him being considered for the bench at least?

Hmm, some interesting points being made.

I don't think Nick Powell is any better than the players currently available. I'm slightly surprised that he's not been on the bench yet, but, then again, there are always going to be players that miss out. To whoever compared Powell to Ulloa. No. They're completely different in my opinion. Powell plays in a similar way to Taylor-Fletcher, he's a typical attacking midfielder with great vision and passing range. His time will come!

I've only seen Lawrence play once this season, his slight stature reminded me of Januzaj. He's still not first team quality yet, in my opinion. Loads of potential though!!

I always use to be tempted to play Ritchie De Laet on the wing and the person who criticised his crossing is being slightly harsh HOWEVER why would you play De Laet when there are already at least 3 players fighting for that position (Mahrez, Knockaert, Albrighton).

I'd argue that full-back is the most difficult position in the Premier League. Konchesky may be prone to the odd mistake but I honestly believe he does more good than bad! Same with De Laet.

Don't think it will be long before we see Powell. His creativity and energy would have been so useful on saturday! He's a flair player and one that makes the difference in the tight games. We only really have Mahrez and Knockaert who are capable of conjuring up that extra bit of magic so Powell will have a big role to play this season imo.

Everbody wanting changes, and major scalpel operations.

We have played 8 games, had our ups and downs, and yes not really played that well in the last 4 games.

Isnt it right to say?? , we havent yet played the team that got us promoted.Drinkwater, James, both coming back after knocks, have played only 1 game together, Vardy also after injury hasnt yet played 4 full games.

The new players, could argue, havent yet played with the strongest choice of players.

We havent yet seen the old backbone of last season, start together.

Nugent, Vardy, James, Drinkwater, Morgan, Schmeichel.(include Wasi and Mahrez, in the run in).

Taking into account I still support Moore(give him a rest), Konch, Nugent, and De laet.

Using a few of the new, but keeping to the stable idea of the old Backbone.I would love to see 3 games of...

Ulloa, Vardy, Mahrez, Drinkwater, James, Cambiasso, Simpson, Morgan,Was, Schlupp, Schmeichel.

subs:- Nugent,King, Powell, Moore, Hamer,Knocky/Hammond.
