Few Positives as City Hit Season Low

Saturday 25 October, 17:30
Barclays Premier League
Liberty Stadium, Swansea

Swansea City 2
Bony 34', 57'

Leicester City 0

Riyad Mahrez picked up his second man of the match award in as many starts after a thoroughly disappointing all-round display saw Leicester go down 2-0 at Swansea, dropping to a season low of 17th in the process. As City's best player, Mahrez put in what can only be described as an inconsistent performance, with excellent attacking intent often followed by wasteful delivery. With inconsistency being the best that City could offer, it's no surprise that the ratings were the worst seen this season with Wes Morgan and Andy King's substitute appearance being voted slightly behind Mahrez in the top three.

Below this the results make painful reading and reflect the frustration of the fans with continuously worsening performances. David Nugent was voted the poorest player by some distance as he struggled to adapt to the role of playing between the midfield and Ulloa. The quality of passing behind Nugent did not help his cause as the ball generally failed to reach him or went over his head. The most obvious culprits of what Nigel Pearson described as poor 'ball management' were highlighted in the ratings, with full backs De Laet and Konchesky and central midfielders Hammond and Drinkwater receiving shockingly low ratings after being dominated by their technically superior opponents.

Swansea showed how effective high pressing off the ball can be against a team low on confidence, while on the ball they were able to execute a move of the highest quality for Wilfried Bony's opening goal. Nigel Pearson's attempt to match up to Garry Monk's side didn't pay off, with Swansea's technical and tactical superiority evident throughout. As a result, Pearson received a rating only marginally higher than that of David Nugent, and a drop in overall confidence to a record low of 84%. As always, the voting supporters removed any blue-tinted glasses to fairly rate what was a decent refereeing display by Mike Jones, with blame for the defeat attributed only to the City team and management.

October's summary will be posted later this week.

Surprised no-one got below a 3. Pretty accurate again though IMO. Thanks for doing these Stuliasz.

De Laet a higher rating than Konch   lol

Defended well against Montero in the first half who only beat him a few times out of the many occasions he took Ritchie on. The amount of focus on his mistake for the second goal has probably given everyone the impression he played worse than he really did.

If we were only rating the first half he'd have got a 6 from me.

I don't think he made a successful pass in the first half, gave the ball away countless times.

Amazed that Mahrez won MOTM.

Thought he was awful, nothing he did worked.

Thought he was the only player who offered anything whatsoever going forward. His final ball didn't come off but he had a shot just wide, and never stopped trying to create something. It was just one of those days where his execution was poor and those around him couldn't find enough space to get free of their markers.

To be fair, whoever won this, pretty much everyone was going to be amazed they won. No one really deserved it, it's just that someone has to and Riyad was arguably the least worst. He did at least have a couple of decent efforts.

Seems about right, though I was expecting a few 2s.

Pearson did well. -2% isn't bad.

A lot of that is in the question though.

Stay or go... ?

It SHOULD take longer than 3 bad games for fans to turn on him.

yep i voted riyad top on a five, not because he was any good he was just a little less shit than the rest of the shower. morgan best of the defence, correct. moore overrated in this poll. king didn't deserve such a low rating but nobody was going to get a 6 or so overall on that performance, although he wasn't involved for the worst of it.

Even if you were rating the niceness of the most horrible infamous people throughout time e.g. Hitler, Harold Shipman etc, someone would have to finish top and someone would have to finish bottom. This doesn't mean that the person who finished top will be challenging Mother Teresa to an arm chair in heaven.

The rating for this week are exactly the same. I don't think Mahrez will be throwing a party and I don't think Nugent will be thinking his team mates are far more superior than him.

Nugent bottom? Konch was the worst followed by Moore and Schmeichel (how the feck is he 4th best player)

Whhhaaaa?

What did Kasper do wrong? He only had to pick the ball out of his net twice? Harsh.

Best Leicester performance was from Foxes’ fan Sam in the Sky Sports studio after the game. Don’t play strikers on the wing, she said. Too right.  Give her the MoTM award I say.

He also passed it to the opposition striker in his own penalty box at one point, should have cost us a goal.
