Banks Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 Okay, we haven't been doing well recently, but its ridiculous the amount of negativity around at the minute. Were 17th, we've played Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton, while also travelling to the likes of Stoke and Swansea which is always going to be a difficult task. We've all had our reasons for why we haven't picked up points against the so called easier teams in this league (Palace, Newcastle and dropping points against Burnley). All this blaming really isn't going to help the side, as frustrating as it is at the moment, we've got to be positive and back the team. If the players see the fans getting on their backs then its only going to affect them in a negative nature. I trust Pearson though. His tactics and team selection have been odd recently, we haven't played our way of football and weve come across as quite negative BUT if we beat West Brom on Saturday, the mood will change. As we are all supporters, we may as well enjoy this season as its been so long since we were last in the big time. If we go down, we go down but at least we'll know as fans that we backed the team till the end. I know, there's going to be some fans that moan about absolutely anything, but every club has them. Sort out our away form, and we'll be fine. Anybody can beat anybody in this division. I don't think anyone would of thought we'd win at Stoke, beat Man Utd, and draw with Arsenal and Everton yet lose to sides like Palace and Newcastle. Anyway, just thought Id make this thread just to voice my opinion. Cheers x

lgfualol Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 I don't understand why it is such a surprise that there is negativity after the last few games. Back the team and everything but the lackluster performances have just rubbed onto the majority of fans.
Fox92 Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 I don't understand why these topics keeps cropping up. We're all supporters; we all want the best for the club. But it's the performances recently that have been very poor - regardless of the result - and that's the most disappointing thing.

Easy fix though, the players and management give us a positive performance, and have a few shots at goal, or pass the ball to each other, no matter the result, the fans come back on side
Mark_from_USA Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 I watch the games after they are played and I know the result. I have the advantage of every game being live here in the US . This way I take my emotions out of how I evaluate the performances. When you do this, you can look for whats really wrong and right. I don't agree there has been nothing positive in the performances. I still think, for instance, our centre backs are doing surprisingly well. I also think that there are players that are showing they belong in this league, and are stepping up. What I saw on Saturday was a definite improvement in our ability to keep possession in the second half. However we lacked the tactical setup to convert these into opportunities. As in the Newcastle game, the decisive goal came off the break when we had been pressing. The first goal was predictable quality from quality players, ones who clearly are at the level of this league. We have two glaring problems. One is we need to shore up the fullbacks. Teams have been consistently putting us under pressure there. The second is that we seem to be gravitating to a setup with Ulloa as the main centre striker, but we are not setting up to take advantage of that. Also Ulloa may not be a PL quality lone striker. It may be too much to ask of him. I think Pearson needs to go to having a strike pairing, and let wide pressure happen from outside. In other words, he needs to go back to his 4-4-2 and let his side establish itself. This should also let his midfield do better, because he wont be cheating it with 3 strikers. I think Mahrez clearly belongs as one winger, and for the other I think he should look to Powell or Knockaert, or even Schlupp if he must. Then pair Ulloa and Vardy/Nugent, let the midfield settle in, and go from there. Just keep playing it. I definitely don't think we are far off from mid table safety, but the next home results will be vital to prevent a collapse in confidence. MPH Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 If we had dropped points against the better teams and picked up more against the mediocre / bob teams then everyone would be happy. I'd be delighted if we finished where we are now at the end of the season. early season performances giving delusions of granduer maybe? ( entitlement over sheer hard work). There's probably a kinder way to put it im sure. Don't get me wrong, i think we are only going to get better... we just are not going to be a top 8 side in the first half of the season. Les-TA-Jon Posted 28 October 2014 Share Posted 28 October 2014 Recent form and performances have been bad. Away form is worrying-particularly only scoring 1 goal. BUT...would we be having this conversation if we'd lost to Everton, arsenal and Man U, whilst taking 5 points from palace, Newcastle and Swansea? We've still got 9 from 9. History says different, only 4 teams have been relegated with 38+ points since 2000, one was Sheff United on 38 points, equal with Wigan who survived, 2 teams on 39, Blackpool and Birmingham got relegated in the same season, West Ham got relegated on 42 in 03 every other season 38 points will get you above 3 other teams, and in some cases up to 15th. This season looks to be an unpredictable one with small clubs regularly taking points off the big boys and only Chelsea looking imposing, it may not be enough this season, but history shows more often than not 38 points will mean survival.
