knockaert

If Knockaert was given free licence anywhere in the front quarter and told not to take anyone on when more than 30 yards from goal - but to pass and support as rapidly as possible - he'd be a much better player.

Just occasionally he does that but, sadly, not "occasionally" enough.

Dyer in contrast was so responsible that, even if he made a mistake that cost us possession, his direct style didn't leave two or three players out of position because it was so easily "read" by his colleagues.

But Knockaert does leave team-mates in a mess. He's so unpredictable they don't know where, how or even if to support at all.

It is irrelevant now but I really wouldn't have minded him going out on loan, even if it was to Forest. He is not making the team, and now he is not even making the squad; it would have done him some good to get some game time. I actually do not think that he is good enough for the Premier League. He had something a little different in the Championship but he lacks pace and you need that in this league to compliment the trickery - without the pace the tricks are easily read by the defenders and defensive midfielders. He is also inconsistent. The problem with this is that he becomes a risk. He became popular for us because he could do something special but the likelihood of getting 'punished' for getting caught in possession in the Championship is a lot less and, therefore, he could be forgiven for the lapses because he would then give you some magic. In the Premier League there is likely to be more time in between those moments of magic, as his lack of pace and his tendency to get found out will be exploited by better players; in addition, his 'lapses' become more pronounced/detrimental as the ball gets turned over more quickly, gaps are exploited and opportunities are necessarily turned into goals with more regularity and precision. He has been a great player for Leicester and I hope that I am proven wrong, I really do, but even at the end of last season I would have put him on my list of players that would find it tough to make the step up.

What I liked about him when he came on against Newcastle was that he was demanding the ball constantly, he wanted to make things happen. Still got the confidence, mid weeks performance would have done him no harm whatsoever as well. Can see him being in contention on Saturday.
