cityfanlee23 Posted 22 November 2014 Share Posted 22 November 2014 Posession this season - Everton - 36% Chelsea - 37% Shrewsbury - 50% Arsenal - 32% Stoke - 41% United - 43% Palace - 40% Burney - 54% - Drew Newcastle - 49% - Lost Swansea - 51% - Lost West brom - 56% - Lost Southampton - 36% Sunderland - 40% MAJOR ISSUE IMO, We can't score with or without the ball it seems, but you sure as hell cannot score without it. At the moment, I think we need no less than 5-6 players in to even think about staying up, unless we can do something drastic. Posession does not win you games admittedly, but we don't have the quality to play counter attacking football in this division. Mainly because we either concede before we attack, or we just throw it away. Good to see knockaert get some time on his 100th appearance, he wasnt given much chance to shine, but he always looked forward and ran with the ball. Will1981 Posted 22 November 2014 Share Posted 22 November 2014 that proves that the more posession we have the worse we play.
cityfanlee23 Posted 22 November 2014 Author Share Posted 22 November 2014 that proves that the more posession we have the worse we play. If you want too look at it that way i suppose you have a point I just think we are not good enough upfront, average in the middle, and shaky at the back
cc_star Posted 22 November 2014 Share Posted 22 November 2014 Possession completely irrelevant! Although you couldn't play a whole season defending your 18yrd box like we did Vs Arsenal & Chelsea conceding chance after chance after chance in near record numbers. Obviously we've stopped doing that & today we have a good defensive performance, crested a few chances - ended the losing run grabbing a point & a clean sheet giving us a platform to build on! It's all about defending well and then when you get a chance (like Schlupp & James did today) ... You take it.

Pretty much this - the defend for your lives style we saw vs Arsenal and Chelsea may work on the odd occasion and see you knick a point or 3, but not for 38 matches - eventually a slip or a bit of brilliance will see you concede, and once that happens you're likely ****ed if you're just playing damage limitation and hoping for one counter attack to be a successful one. Arriba Los Zorros Posted 22 November 2014 Share Posted 22 November 2014 got to disagree with all, possession is the key to winning games. without possession, you don't get your touch in and then struggle to create when you do eventually get the ball. Counter attacking is one thing but requires a top defence and composure to take chances. Plus, when playing at home, a team who concede most of the possession to the away side make the crowd restless and edgy and therefore not on side - see Aston Villa and their record at Villa Park under Lambert.... Spot on.. Of course, possession without a cutting edge, won't work. But most games are won by those teams who have both.

We try and shoehorn another 5 or 6 into the side in January and we'll have no chance anyway. And who are these 5 or 6 quality players just waiting in the wings?
