Time to strengthen the squad

Recommended Posts

I don't think there are many players in this country of the required quality that we could attract at the moment. If you look at Hull when they came up - they were very fortunate that Huddlestone was surplus to requirements at Spurs but obviously a good player at this level. I don't see any equivalent options out there for us, especially in January.

We need Steve Walsh to pull another European rabbit out of the hat.

You're right...it should have happened over the summer.

When the complete focus was on 'spaffing' over Cambiasso, it should have been on getting quietly excited by knowing we're were making two or three really good signings at this level.

And they WERE there..but may not be in the Jan window

Can you give me an example of some of these players who we could have afforded who would have made a difference?

What can we 'afford'..genuine question..I don't know, do you know?

I've made some suggestions.. I'd like Callum McManaman as a tricky winger, I suggested Cyrus Christie at Derby.. A right back with pace and strength. Wickham would have been worth paying for, and of course, I wondered what the availability of Cattermole would be..a player who can be OTT but who has bite and fight in abundance.

There's four..but I have no idea whether we could 'afford' them.

The question I want answering was Pearson's hands tied by Robinson who had been briefed to cap wages thus limiting Pearson's hand in the transfer market?

When Upson got injured there was 3 to 4 weeks left of the transfer window open why did he not sign more cover like Lescott or Dawson who is now at Hull.

Why is Simpson not even getting on the bench, it is quite obvious De laet is one of the favourites despite him being a defensive liability.

And why is Powell not getting a sniff despite being a far better option than Nugent, he's dropped a right !ollock by coming here, could of been playing regular for a top championship side.

Also Lawrence good enough for the Wales bench but resigned to under21 football with us, Why?

You've spent the whole season telling us how much more difficult the Premier League is than the Championship, and yet, after us racking up 102 points last season and still struggling this year, your suggestion is to buy more Championship players to improve our squad? I don't know enough about Cyrus Christie and I do think McManaman is an ok player, but I'm not sure that either are better than what we already have.

As for Cattermole, I think he's a good player and played well yesterday. But he should have been sent off for a scissor tackle and that's the problem with him. Also, defensive-minded central midfielders is clearly not an area we need to improve - Cambiasso and James can both do that job fine, as can King and to a lesser extent Hammond.

Wickham has scored what? 1 goal this season?

1) When Upson got injured there was 3 to 4 weeks left of the transfer window open why did he not sign more cover like Lescott or Dawson who is now at Hull.

1) Lescott was already at WBA when Upson got injured. Dawson is from Yorkshire and Hull was a more attractive option at the start of the season with European football.

2) This is a strange one as I know Simpson was well thought of by the QPR fans that I know. I don't think De Laet has been too bad though.

3) I thought Powell has ineffectual against West Brom and atrocious at Southampton in his two substitute appearances that he's had.

4) Hal Robson-Kanu is in the Wales starting XI. Would you expect him to walk into our first team? Probably should be captain on your logic.

Maybe we couldn't have afforded them, though?

How much have you really seen of Cyrus Christie, as well? Not sure I would have liked Cattermole with us. The only thing he has is aggression. That in abundance but would he have fit the way we play? I'm not so sure.

I agree on Lawrence, he's looked really impressive for the U21s. As have Barmby (winger) and Dodoo. I'm sure if NIgel and co. thought they were better than any first teamers, they would be in the squad.

A bit after the horse has bolted, the summer is when you bring in the right players, January is impossible to get decent players in at the right price, and then they need time to bed in, so any buisness done should have been done in the summer and January used to cover injuries.

Pearson has got it massively wrong, with his blind faith that his squad was good enough, and therefore brought in players that are no better than we already have.

I don't get some of his signings, most of them haven't been given a look in, what was the point in signing Powell, Simpson, albrighton and the likes

We need a good winger/wide player that runs at the defence with pace my suggestions would be callum McMananman (saw someone post him thought thats a decent shout) or bacary Sako.

We need a poacher someone who scores. Jordan rhodes? **** it he's pricey but he actually fvcking scores!

Finally we could do with an attacking midfielder, someone who can get goals from the midfield e.g. shaun maloney.

Maybe could do with another decent LB but imo Schuulp is good enough there.

Yes, we need to strengthen our squad in January. I am one who has been very disapointed by our summer business this year. I agree with the general consensus that we are a left back, left winger and striker short of where we need to be.

The summer business was just woeful. We have ended up bringing in bodies to make up a squad. We have got six or seven in who were no better and infact worse than we already had. We don't obviously know how much Nigel had to spend, but I think we need to make sure some more quality is injected in to the squad after Christmas. I imagine Nigel didn't want to pay over inflated prices on the likes of Deeney or Aaron Cresswell. I'm hoping a few months down the line he is prepared to gamble or has targets from a market that may be less inflated instead of the Championship.

Time to replace Konch and allow Schlupp to concentrate on being a winger. We need someone to bang in a few and we are crying out for another wide man who can put balls in the box. I think we may have to spend 20 million or so to get the right players in. Time to put a bit of the loyalty behind you Nigel. Get players in who will make the current players have to work their socks off to stay in the team, not ones e.g Albrighton, Simpson, Upson, Powell, Lawrence who are there to make up the numbers and play second fiddle to your favourites.

I agree, we need 3/4 new signings in January. But who do we sign? Will these players come to Leicester

I always said in the summer that we needed a CB,so we got Upson of a free? He hasn't played. We should have gone for Harry Mcquire who's now @ Hull.

New right and left back, and a another striker who knows where the net is

No one knows, who, what level or how many players we tried to sign in the summer. No one knows if we failed due to contracts or because players just didn't fancy coming to lcfc.

Why people think that we did nothing else whilst trying to sign Cambiasso I don't know. I'm pretty sure we have a recruitment team capable of dealing with more than one transfer at a time.

I suspect that any player in the pl or with a decent pedigree from abroad would need some massive entitlement to settle for lcfc you can see that by looking at the players we did sign. So unless the club were prepared to spunk millions up the wall on transfer/wages a la qpr for players with somewhat dodgy motivation for signing it was always going to be difficult to get the quality we would have desired.

Hence we have aproblem of having a decent sized squad but not a significant difference between the quality of them.

How many of us would have said that we needed to strengthen the squad after the Man Utd game?  Now we've been on a terrible run opinions change.  We'd all like to see a stronger squad but I doubt that NP will splash the cash in January, these days the club is being run on more prudent fiscal lines.

Most players that lose confidence end up having a poorer game.  Yesterday there was a fair amount of evidence of low confidence amongst the strikers, and who can blame them given that so little has been created for them in the past month.  If we can only get the goals going in again it will give the whole squad a lift and the performances should improve.
