dbtcity Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 Just wondering with how little game time we've seen from the majority of the new signings just how much of an influence/say he has on signings??? It just seems strange that Pearson would chase so many players that don't seem to feature in his match day plans

ChrisWoodIsClass Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 Does seem a bit strange though, was there any point signing simpson, powell, albrighton etc... if they aren't even going to make the bench
foxinsocks Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 I am underwhelmed by Albrighton; I think I'd rather de late than simpson (though it is close); Powell should be on the bench and given the last 20 minutes (in place of nugent who didn't help)

Spicer Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 I would like to know the list of players we were trying to get in the summer and missed out on. Our signing have either been poor or not featured so we don't know thier level. Terry better get his act together for January to get us some good players as we desperatly need it. Palace won today so we are back in the relagtion zone.
dayday Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 Martin O'Neill always said if you are going to sign a player, make sure it's better than you already have. Judging by all the signings we have made,we have lost the pot

Even yesterday even though he didn't look a great threat in front of goal he was still a great attribute when defending corners and won no end of headers in our own area. UpTheLeagueFox Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 Pearson & Walsh plus the scouting set up identify the players; Terry Robinson just does the financial side, putting together a package with what the owners allow him to. TR does not choose the players or have any say on who goes in or out. His role is contracts, fees etc. Pearson is not a manager who would tolerate having players foisted upon him and Robinson wouldn't do that and doesn't do that. Hope that clears it up. Callabinho Posted 23 November 2014 Share Posted 23 November 2014 What strikes me as being very strange is the fact we didn't see any movement coming in from overseas, especially France. Going from "you probably haven't heard of half of our targets" to landing Ulloa, Simpson and Albrighton...something, somewhere went arse over tit. smudgerfox Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 Surely we are just not well placed to sign Premiership quality players - having been out of the top flight for so long. Frazer Campbell, preferred Palace, Pelle was lined up but then Koeman went to Southampton. So we are looking at players of proven potential - Powell, Ulloa, Albrighton', Lawrence - rather than players who are there already. Any player who comes on the market who very likely would be a force in the Prem would almost certainly go elsewhere. We 're probably more attractive than Burnley and that's it. ozleicester Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 Pearson made many statements about only signing players that would improve the squad, given that so few new signings are playing regularly that clearly didn't happen. So the question remains, who wanted to sign them and why? Pearson picks the players, Robinson executes the deals. Seems to work well. Robinson will also look at the ending of the contracts etc. I don't see a problem with the signings, they were part of improving the squad. He obviously wanted to go with last years team, but bringing in Powell, Lawrence etc as cover creates a better option than GFT and Gallagher being here. So yes, we have a better squad than last year without question. Will it be good enough to see us through, only time will tell. I think Albrighton was a mistake though. He probably brought him as another option to Anthony and Mahrez, but in the end we have used Schlupp more and don't always use wide men. But I suppose he wasn't sure what or who he would use initially as its a moving feast. I can understand people saying "why haven't the new signings played a lot", but as mentioned, his plan was obviously to buy support for his current team, rather than disband and replace them
Babylon Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 Pearson made many statements about only signing players that would improve the squad, given that so few new signings are playing regularly that clearly didn't happen. So the question remains, who wanted to sign them and why? The squad has improved as it has been expanded. Signing Simpson means we have cover for right back. Something we wouldn't have had before. Ulloa is better than Nugent. Cambiasso is better than Gary Taylor Fletcher. Albrighton will be needed in January when we lose Schlupp and Mahrez. Upson as 4th choice centre back is better than no 4th centre back (if he ever gets fit). So if he said squad then he'd be correct. If he said the starting 11 then no we haven't a great deal. For people to start suggesting Robinson is to blame is as pointless as pinning it all on Pearson as nobody knows what has gone on, what budgets we had etc. If he was only give £10/£15m to improve the team then that's not going to make a huge difference in this league. Bang average players like Boyd go for £3m, and that just about sums up how difficult it is to get quality at a good price.
Captain... Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 Cambiasso is better than Gary Taylor Fletcher. One of the best things about being a Leicester fan is that statements like that actually need to be made.

Dickov22 Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 I don't see why people are so surprised we signed Simpson. Just because he isn't playing doesn't mean he wasn't Pearson's signing. We had no cover for De Laet last season (on occasions we had to use Moore and Was which didn't work) so this season we signed a back up/competition for De Laet. What's the mystery? Ulloa is miles better than Nugent and Wood Upson I do think will play for us, we couldn't have foreseen he'd get injured. Albrighton is a strange one, but perhaps he will get his chance when Knockaert inevitably goes on loan, mahrez and Schlupp go to the African Cup. It's a good thing that we have options too. Lawrence is supposed to be an outstanding talent, but maybe he's not ready for the Prem just yet. I'd have thought Pearson knows better than we do as he sees him every day. Cambiasso has been brought in for his experience, clear class and more depth. He's better than Hammond and GTF Powell I think will eventually replace Nugent. LcFc_Smiv Posted 24 November 2014 Share Posted 24 November 2014 A season isn't 3 months long, new players were never going to come straight in and replace those who featured last season. With the AFCON coming I think we will start to see the newer players introduced into the squad at some point. Pearson let those from last season start and to be fair to them they responded well with a strong start, the last five games haven't been great and we're starting to see subtle changes. De Laet hasn't been woeful despite some fans views, a few mistakes but he's been fairly average and it wouldn't make much sense to replace him now. Nugents slowly moving down the pecking order, and I would expect come January he will be switching been a place on the bench or a place in the stands unless he finds some drastic form. If anyone read that Wes Morgan interview a few weeks back it's clear to see that Pearson likes to integrate players slowly, so that they grow into their role within the club. While we're in a bad run of form, we aren't horrifically bad and it's not emergency station time just yet. Some may criticise him for paying faith to some of last years squad, but I'd be more worried if we had alienated members of last years squad to give the new boys a go and they had failed to deliver. Results are ultimately important, but at the end of the day, the character and mood of the dressing room can play a big part in keeping us up, and I reckon could be a big reason to why things are panning out as they are. Remember the MON days, when the foxes never knew when they were beaten, this squad has shown glimpses of having that fight for each other, and it will be important in games to come.
