Surely taking a corner is the same in every league

Recommended Posts

Every team delivers a high percentage of duff corners. Our problem in my view is that we don't vary the type of delivery, we very rarely if ever go short these days. Also we don't attack good deliveries particularly well and when we do get our heads onto them first, they invariably go over the bar.

Need to mix it up a bit I feel.

We weren't that good at them last year, I can only recall one header from a corner with Liam Moore.

Think Big Wes just about squeezed one in against Blackpool too. I agree with the OP though. I was watching Worcester City the other night and they were putting in some great deliveries from corners that were being attacked properly.

Doesn't seem such a stretch that we should be able to get the delivery past the first man 9 times out of 10 instead of the opposite. Powell's corner late on against Man City last week epitomised just how inept our set pieces are.

I'm not 100% but wasn't Wes's against Blackpool from a Mahrez cross not a corner? I remember Mahrez doing some skill then floating a great ball to the far post.

Yes- I think Morgan stayed up the front after a corner. It was a great piece of skill from Mahrez anyway. Moore's goal was against Wigan in a 2-0 win. He busted the hoardings lol

Most infuriating thing to watch as a fan is a wasted set piece.

As a premier league footballer you should be able to strike a dead ball into the right area 90% of the time. We probably do it about 40% of the time.

40%? More like 20%, 100% of the time, it says it all about the current state of Leicester City. Same goes for Tigers - ol trust Owen Williams may have been great at penalties against Saracens but before that he was cowering around the 70% level. Disgraceful what's going on with Leicester sport.

As I mentioned, set pieces is down to the manager, how the players are coached. Quality of the player is part of it but not all of it.

Well it's Stowell's job to do the set pieces (fvck knows what he's doing) not Pearson's.

The lack of movement ensures that we carry zero threat, even if (a big if, I know) the ball beat the first man we have maybe one player making a half arises attempt to attack the ball.

How many times do you even see one of our players even get a free header?

For a good corner you need a good delivery and better movement so height isn't required but desirable but when we don't have any of those three things, scoring from a corner seems quite unlikely.

Most teams only get half about 6 corners per game. Non realistic discussion going on here. There's no reason to suppose that the coaching staff at Leicester are doing anything less in this area than any other club.

But when you're a struggling team, that's 6 chances to put an Un - opposed ball into the penalty area.... and we can't do it. Some of our corners have quite honestly been pitiful.

There is NO excuse for our shite set pieces in general. There seems to be such little thought gone into them and into any sort of variation. Either very poor coaching has gone into them, or terrible execution.

Even the most staunch Pearsonite has surely no excuse for them? Waits with baited breath...

I remember being 9, 10 year old. If you had someone who could lift the ball in high with arc you'd be causing mayhem on the 6 yard box and you'd normally score. The opposition manager would be like "Can I see his birth certificate please?"

The pros can do this 999 times out of 1000 with ease.

In pro football they try to play it hard with lift to beat the blokes at near post and make it dip in the 6 yard box. This is incredibly hard and takes so much practice.

At times though we even just play the 9-10 year old arc, and still have no guile or movement.
