Dan LCFC Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 Said when we signed him I'd seen more criticism from Wigan fans for him than praise. They weren't wrong it seems.
SamB Posted 2 January 2015 Author Share Posted 2 January 2015 Technically a very good player. I've watched him play many games for the u21s and thought he could do a decent job playing behind a striker.

lgfualol Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 I'm about as bothered as Powell probably is. Wish we signed someone else with Prem experience instead.
Leicesterpool Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 I'm about as bothered as Powell probably is. Wish we signed someone else with Prem experience instead. Would have rather have gone for someone like Shaun Maloney in the summer, a bit more experience and probably a better player.

Unabomber Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 What a pathetic man, he is in a dream position for so many guys and he seems to be throwing it away. Crazy attitude to have, one day he will find himself playing in league one wondering what went wrong.

Footballwipe Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 Unfortunately he's probably set for life anyway. There's an autobiography of an ex-manager and he states he couldn't get an inexeprienced 18-year old on loan to his club because he was on £18,000 per week. Almost as a retainer to make sure no-one else came in for him. It's utterly daft, especially if they haven't "made it" yet, but you can bet your arse after his £4m move from Crewe Powell is ridiculously remunerated because he was considered such a talent. And down the pan he goes. I bet it doesn't take much if you're earning the thick end of £1m a year to lose attitude, especially if you've not been given a chance at the club who signed you. And if football is a living and not a love (which for some it really is) then where's the motivation when you're earning that at such a young age? If you can't get yourself up at a Premier League club, with a new manager at your parent club to impress, then you've not really got a chance. Many of the Man Utd youngsters we've taken over the last few years, Drinkwater, James, De Laet, Keane have been impressive, astute and have improved themselves from the moment they arrived. They get that attitude and desire from a young age, it doesn't just spring into the psyche. We saw ourselves what a bit of money and a bit of praise does with George Taft, and how quickly he went down the pan. After Wigan, and now his time here. Powell's career looks like it's only going one way. I would say it could be a disappointing end for him, but I suspect his bank balance will soften the blow. J.Lisemore Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 This is the perfect example of a guy who doesn't realise just how lucky he is. I fail to see all the hype over Powell anyway, he's fortunate Crewe have such a history of producing top talent.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 Can someone explain this Maloney thing to me I swear that's twice I've read it today? I assume we are talking Shaun can't even get in a terrible Wigan side at the moment Maloney?
MooseBreath Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 A poor man's Levi Porter. Was probably nothing special to begin with, is never going to be a decent footballer unless he fixes his attitude very soon. Has probably pissed most of the money he has earned away already, will in all likelihood end up as a journeyman scraping a poor living in the conference well into his late 30s. MooseBreath Posted 2 January 2015 Share Posted 2 January 2015 I massively doubt he'll ever be "poor" He wouldn't be the first footballer to piss away all his early career earnings on trivial shit. If he continues failing as a footballer he'll soon drop down a league or two where the wages aren't really that great, certainly not enough to continue the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. Could easily find himself bankrupt. It has happened to a lot of footballers.
