RL v RL?

Recommended Posts

Haven't listened to Radio Leicester for a while and listened in yesterday.Always accepted the fact the commentary was biased and through very blue tinted glasses, yesterday and I will put it down to the Pearson/Stringer fallout but got the feeling Stringer wanted us to lose. Quick to criticise the Kramaric miss and the "dive" for the penalty claim. The highlights i watched a bloody good save and a very good claim for a penalty.

The chance was well worked, could not have been hit much sweeter and was well saved, not sure what else Kramaric was supposed to do a minute later Jeff certainly had more time to pick his spot.

As for the penalty shout could not see the dive Stringer was on about or a really poor heavy first touch. Somewhat bitter.

Yesterday was the first time i listened to RL for a long time and i have to agree that he almost wanted us to lose.  The penalty incident made me think that at the time and he painted a picture of a clear cut dive.  When Elliott said it wasn;t he basically ignored him and just kept going on about how the ref got it right.

Bumped into him a few times and he is such an arrogant pr1ck that he will always believe that he is right even if he's wrong.

He's defintely from the Tim Lovejoy school of football laddism and sensationalism. Like Col, I don't get wound up by him and I quite like Matt Elliott.

I would like it to be more fact based rather than it being like sitting next to two blokes in the stand

I listened to Radio Leicester in the first half then when I saw the London link on here switched to that.  The commentators did come across as Spurs fans but not in a blinkered, biased way (like Forest away last year and Palace the year before).  It was more enjoyable and had a better idea of the game.

Bourne must be really good at the admin/studio tech side of his job as he has no personality or charisma.  He sounds like someone doing an impression of what you would think a trainspotter would sound like.

To give Radio Leicester credit, the audio quality is aways good (unlike the Radio London feed yesterday) and they sound more professional on the mics, the shows/podcasts well produced.  It's just content and agenda that needs to be sorted out.

When I listen to a radio commentary I expect to understand how the match is going. There are periods during the match when that happens but then Stringer and Elliott start a discussion on something or other and don't appear to understand that although the subject may be very interesting to them, and potentially to a wider audience, what we want is to hear what's happening in the match. Typically their discussion will only end when there is a shot, bad tackle or something notable. So for too many periods in the game I'm guessing what's going on, not being informed. Very frustrating.

I remember my grandad telling me in the old days the radio commentators had an A4 sheet of paper, this was divided up into a 10 x 6 grid, and in the papers on a saturday morning there would be a page with one printed inside. The commentator would then say where every meaning full pass went, (i.e B3) so you knew where the ball was. Seems a good idea to me

What do you expect from a flop off the apprentice?

My signature pretty much sums him up (please take into account Marshall had scored a belter that game)

Anyway I have this comparison to make. Ian Stringer is a poor mans Adrian Chiles...

funnily enough I put the commentary on for literally 2 minutes in the car and stringer was talking about some girl off to the side eating a pie or some absolute nonsense and the wife was like "why is he talking about that", I just didn't have an answer.

Stringer as always thought himself to be more than a expert than either both Matt Elliot or Alan Young, yet of course both of them are ex footballers.

Most people on here think they know more than Young or Eliot.

Should've replied with a Pearson classic

The cake I mentioned above.

Perhaps fittingly, Stringer is an absolute clown. A little part of me is dreading relegation because there will be less streams and I'll have to go back to listening to 'CrowdWatch' more often...

It was that occasion or another yesterday, but while he was describing the irrelevant off-pitch action in great depth, I heard the crowd noise rise and the referee's whistle blow. Then Stringer finished with what had distracted him and informed the listeners there's nothing happening on the pitch. Useless.

I don't listen to RL. On the way home from matches always switch on the national radio instead, much more informative and professional.

IS is the reason, he needs to realise he is just the messenger, not the main event. RL does not revolve around him. Plus he has got the most annoying voice.

Ian Stringer
Ian Stringer is a 26-year-old software sales manager, who has worked for BBC local radio (Three Counties Radio) and once had a No. 8 hit in the charts when he rewrote the lyrics to Tony Christie's "Amarillo". He claimed that "losing" and its synonyms are not words in his dictionary. He was fired in week three. In the Why I Fired Them special from later in that series, Sugar deemed Stringer to have been the worst candidate from this series, and branded him "an absolute waste of space."

He now works for bBC Radio Leicester, commentating on live coverage of Leicester City matches.

Has a golf handicap of 43, and has gone though 15 pairs of hair straighteners since starting to use them at the age of 12.

Ian Stringer talents also include dolphin trainer, ice cream salesmen, pot hole digger, corner shop shelf re-stocker and most importantly punching bag holder.

can't knock some of his goal commentaries but when you want him to tell you what's going on in the game he's crap. I've often wondered why he isn't the co commentator. if they had someone who was actually good at commentating telling us all what was going on and then occasionally stringer could shout something excitable out and then shut up for 10 minutes. Like what andy Gray used to do on sky, just produce the magic when there's a goal (ooh ya beauty etc) but not actually be the one to talk much football because he's clearly a bit of a buffoon.

ah yes yet again...

I dont mind Stringer, i like the passion.. BUT, he just needs to spend more time commentating the GAME!,

I (and its just me so whatever) want to hear the build up play....... when the ball moves from player to player.........which area of the park its in........... who is moving to it.. away from it,

Stringer YOU are my eyes, you might be able to see it and dont need to know.. i cannot... YOU have to tell me.

Every time yu start to talk about someones hair, hat or sandwiches... STOP!!! i dont care and you tend to waffle and therefore miss out when the game restarts. Suddenly ive gone from "the lady with the purple hat... to the ball going out for a corner."

Football is a fast and continual game, we dont have time for pleasantries

And Matty, please keep the specialist comments short an snappy, say in 10 words what it is currently taking you 35.

Surprised nobody has mentioned just how thin on the ground they are for material before and after the match.

The lack of player/manager access for stringer means we now have to listen to interviews with Jason Puncheon on Crystal Palace winning instead of anything about our game, on local radio its embarrassing.

I actually enjoyed Stringer to begin with because his passion and joking style were a breathe of fresh air from lifeless commentators we had before like John Barber.

However now we are left with an arrogant, unproffesional idiot who's cloning his sidekick Bourne into a terrible version of him.

It all needs a massive overhaul and fast

I believe that Radio 5 live has commentary of the Man U game this aft for anyone ( like me ) desperate to escape Stringer's banal waffle.

It does indeed
