Best away day

Recommended Posts

My best away day was watching City away at Grimsby a friend at work was friends with one of the coaches who supplied the tickets after about 10 pints in the leaky boot we found out we were in the Grimsby end the idea was to try and stay low key but after leicester scored after 2 minutes that went out of the window. The home side were getting a bit hostile with us until muzzy came up with his escape to victory overhead kick which seemed to stun the home fans and was probably the reason we got out alive.a most memorable day at a shitty ground.

Forest away, 3-2 play off season.

If you say otherwise you weren't there.

Total agree, that would be number one for me to.

Another one that sticks in my mind is Norwich away in the fa cup in 2012, that was another classic. The train back from that was erm interesting. lol

Plenty of shit ones come to mind but this is the only one that can be ranked as the best. I kissed the heads of so many bald blokes that day lol

Huddersfield away in league one was a laugh, beer festival followed by Dyer's sublime lob followed by it all kicking off.

Huddersfield away in the FA cup was bloody awful though!

Lots of favourites, but top five:

5) Charlton 0 City 5 - 1970

4) Fulham 0 Ian Wilson 1

3) Liverpool 0 City 1 - 1981

2) Man Utd 0 City 1 - 1998

1) QPR 0 Joe Waters 2 - 1974.

Sorry to go so far back, but memories get better as you get older. 4-0 at Luton, Keith's goal also deserves a mention.

Obviously, we have had some good away wins over the last few years, QPR, Burnley last season, Norwich in the cup, Portsmouth 10 years ago, to name a few, but the anxiety was never really there.

Charlton 1970 was never in doubt, but we could of and should have scored 12 - 15 goals that day.

Hoping for another great memory this Saturday.

Forest away in 2013 for me.

In the last five years though I've probably missed more of the best ones than I've been to, which is quite sickening considering I'm easily at 90%. Wasn't at Huddersfield or Watford last year, Norwich 2012, Liverpool this year etc...

Best this season is Spurs by a mile for me.

Some good ones.

Orient away last game of the season in 79-80, winning it to win the league and we must have had 60% of the crowd there, barely anyway paid to get in after a well known City fan who also played cricket for Leicestershire* that gives it away for the old timers lol (he also got nicked for flashing his knob at piccadilly station after after the game) opened the gates to the masses and everyone piled in without paying, the invasion of the pitch between 75-90 mins was fantastic as well. Everyone who was anyone in Leicester was in London that night and the capital was our own.

We lost 3-0 at Peterboro in about 99 but it was great as the biggest City away support ever, 9-10k fans taking over two sides of the ground (and the streakers) - you wouldnt get that now.

Watford away the 1-0 with Izzet - the start of the MON era - 6k of us down there just going mental, a proper relegation v going up side and everything on it, you had to be there to feel the tension of that one.

Forest obviously was something special, to do that to those ***** on the last day was magnificent, even better in hindsight now considering where they are and with a dipshit as gaffer,

Although Huddersfield was good last year for being old school, a huge invasion with a celebration on the pitch, we underplay that, Huddersfield isnt't an away friendly pitch invasion stadium and did a damn good job of it. Took a lot of effort. The young fans we have now should take a shitload of heart from that considering how harsh people are in this day and age regadrding fans, Leeds didnt get on the pitch at Hudders to celebrate a last minute winner for the play offs, City did.

That finish from Lloyd seemed to hang in the air forever.

I hate trying to categorise best away days's etc. Season upon season, we normally have a cracker which is worth going. Liverpool for me was great.

Chelsea away in the League Cup is up for there for me as well.

Along with the Villa game before it with Fryatt scoring the only goal in the last minute as well as Forest the game before it losing 2-1 in the 88th minute and coming back to win 3-2!

Hereford Away in League 1 was an awesome one as well.

Reading and Charlton in the FA Cup in 05 with 2 last minute winners in both games!

Plus Spurs 4 - 4 Leicester, That was my first experience of a proper goal mental.

So many amazing memories watching Leicester on the road. Just wish I was made of ****ing money so I could afford to go to them all AND pay the mortgage!

I've never seen us lose away from home, Bolton was momentous but not really a great away day.

My first away game was Watford away where we drew 3-3 where N'Guessan equalised late on so that'd probably be the best.

all sorts of things can make a good away day. seeing us win twice at anfield is something I enjoyed in terms of the results.

however hows this for a day out. 23 hours to watch a game in this country.

Carlisle away in l1 mid dec ish.

3 days earlier I had flown back in from cuba and the sunshine.

on the saturday I got up at 4 am and jumped in a taxi with a few others at 4.15 for a 5 am train out of leicester to brum.

train from brum to Carlisle about 6 ish and by the time we arrived in Carlisle the only beer left on the train was special brew. ****ing awful stuff. wouldn't mind be we took a crate with us and drank it before we got anywhere near.

we arrived in Carlisle to snow and before opening time.

we got a boozer to open for us when 20 or so Leicester rocked up at the door.

went to the game berner scores in a 2-1 win.

now to catch the connecting train back to Leicester I think you had to be on the 6.30 out of Carlisle, however the 7.30 was so much cheaper. we risked it.

we made it back to brum where my mates tired to leave me asleep on the train. only it stopping woke me up and we pegged it across new st to whatever platform there was a delayed train back to Leicester and in movie fashion dived in the doors.

we got back to leicester about midnight and got in at 1 am.

23 hours for 90 mins. what a day.

I have another one that involves our leyton orient tickets ending up in a post box in east goscote. but I think that's been told before.

Best:

Man Utd away when Cottee scored our winner in a 1-0 win

Forest away last year

Worst:

Newcastle away. We were 3-1 up, I was in a box belonging to my now deceased great uncle who was their president. Surrounded by Newcastle fans I decided to continually celebrate and taunt them. Shearer then scored a hat trick and we lost 4-3
