davieG Posted 4 March 2015 Share Posted 4 March 2015 The owner of Leicester City has seen his wealth soar by £800 million over the past year, according to a list of global billionaires. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is now estimated to be worth £1.8 billion, a report by US magazine Forbes has stated. The City chairman, owner of Thailand-based duty free business King Power, is ranked at number 714 on the list, up from 1,154 last year. He has also moved from the 11th to sixth richest person in Thailand. The magazine reported King Power, which has a monopoly on retail operations at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports, saw revenues grow by almost a fifth to £1.23 billion in 2014 despite the country's political crisis. The report by Forbes states: "With the military junta hinting that King Power's monopoly on duty free operations in Thailand's largest three airports could be under threat, he's eyeing expansion in the region, including in Japan and Korea." As well as Leicester City, Mr Srivaddhanaprabha's other assets include a 4 per cent stake in Thai budget airline Nok Air. The 57-year-old, who celebrated King Power's 25th anniversary last year at a big gala event, owns dozens of horses and his own polo field outside of Bangkok. He is an avid polo player. Mr Srivaddhanaprabha, who bought City from Milan Mandaric in a £39 million deal in 2010, has pumped more than £120 million into the club. In 2013, he wiped out the club's debts of £103 million after converting them into shares. City revealed on Tuesday they racked up losses of almost £21 million during their Championship title charge last season. However, the club said they had met the Football League's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules which state a club could only make a loss of £8 million in 2013-14, or face a transfer ban or a fine of up to £20 million. This is because, City claim, £13 million of these losses were "allowable" costs. The Football League are yet to confirm this. cc_star Posted 4 March 2015 Share Posted 4 March 2015 So he's claiming £13m were allowable losses, when the FL set the limit at £8m?
Benji Posted 4 March 2015 Share Posted 4 March 2015 So he's claiming £13m were allowable losses, when the FL set the limit at £8m? Nar, £13m of the £21m loss does not count towards the £8m limit. We must be pretty close to the threshold, though.

cc_star Posted 4 March 2015 Share Posted 4 March 2015 If he'd have invested 5% of this increase in income in summer transfer fees he'd probably be even better off in future years
MooseBreath Posted 4 March 2015 Share Posted 4 March 2015 Forbes only use publicly available or volunteered information in these lists, they're not necessarily accurate, could be just that Forbes didn't know about £800m worth of business interests last year but now they do.
