He clearly knows how to sell records and has a huge following, but I very much doubt he'd have anywhere near the level of fame that he has now if his music were about 10-20 years ago. Pretty much irrelevant. The music 10-20 years ago probably wouldn't have the same success if it was 30-40 years ago.
