So, Ed Miliband has fallen on his sword. This is perhaps unsurprising considering he managed a worse result than Gordon Brown, no small feat.

The question is, who will give Labour the best chance of regaining power in 2020?

They need a pro business leader, which (I think) means Chukka Umunna fits the bill. Tristram Hunt is likeable but could they appoint a public schoolboy after all the abuse they've heaped on Cameron? Don't know enough about Dan Jarvis to comment, The others not a chance.

Why?

Chukka Umunna would be a massive mistake.

Just because he's young and black, doesn't automatically mean people will engage with him.

Dave would tear him apart at PMQ's. The man for the job was David Milliband but that wont happen.

Cooper is the beat candidate but it will probably be Burnham.

Because being anti business hasn't done them any favours.

But that's not a reason to have a pro-business leader. What about a pro-person leader? or a million other things.

You've said that David is the pro-business leader so why have a copy of him and no real choice (again) in an election?

time for a female leader.

It's Chuka, he's not a period of time in a polo match lol

I don't think he would get torn apart by Cameron at all. As Webbo said he's more pro business than someone like Burnham.

And I do actually thing being young and black will engage certain people. He'd get Sol Campbell's vote for staters lol

Personally I don't mind if they stay in opposition forever but if they want to win they've got to realise that England,on the whole, isn't yearning for more socialism.

Nobody springs to mind - they all lack charisma and stature.

Labour has reaped what is sowed, so to speak. Dumping on their best bet for his nondescript brother was always a strange tactic. It suggested to me that they had no understanding of the type of person required to win over the public. They have got their 10 years in the wilderness their planning deserved.

Saw an interview with Tristram Hunt this afternoon, and was impressed with him, not for the first time - talking about combining social democratic values with support for aspiration, except he put it across very well.

I'm not sure the Eton/Bullingdon abuse ladled out to Cameron would rule him out, but I do wonder whether his obvious poshness would alienate some target voters. Maybe a Hunt/Burnham dream team ticket, as Burnham comes across well, is less posh, but maybe lacks the gravitas or intellect or something?

I find Yvette Cooper shallow, cheap and obnoxious - and doubt I'm the only one. Surprised at Kendall being mentioned as she just seems like a lightweight greasy-pole climber to me. As for, Umunna, a bright bloke, obviously, and the business attitude might be helpful, but doesn't make him the new Obama. I agree with Dr. The Singh, too, he comes across as massively arrogant to me, and not a team player.
