Finances and Future plans

Recommended Posts

So I just started reading a really interesting book and it's got me reevaluating my life and creating plans for the future which I'd never even thought about before. I'm well into the proces of creating a 5 year plan to pay off my mortgage (£150,000) and set up 2 or 3 businesses so I can get to a point where I can quit my job and enjoy my life and most importantly, spend more time with my daughter. the plan is slowly coming together and whilst things may change, I'm determined to make it happen.

so I wondered, does anyone else plan in this manner? Have goals that they intend to reach and will do whatever it takes to reach them. Also does anyone have any interesting ways of supplementing their income. Along side my full time job I do matched betting which is what will be utilised further to clear my mortgage.

No I didnt go that far but thankfully I had two extremely insightful family members who gave me direction in my early 20s as I was too busy chasing women and living week to week. The first dude to influence me was my uncle who got me to pump money in Isa`s and a pension. He practically begged me to listen to him as he saw I had a good job and was earning well and still living at home so I started putting roughly £100 a month in and that rose to £500 within a year or two. Ive stuck to that for nearly 20 years. The other was my cousin who is a partner in a law firm. We are very close and she invited me to go halves on a venture to flip a property quickly to make a bit of cash. It wasnt anything major but could equate to half a year of wages. She does all the legal stuff for these private companies and billionaires and she does get offered properties at a lower than market price for a quick sale and she used to pass on all the info to her contacts. However, I joined her on one back in 2001 and we have done about 15 similar deals since. It got me to have a taste of properties and I ended up getting a few places that I rent out for myself in that time.

I never made grand plans but what I have tried to do is use my head and be disciplined. I said to myself I was being a bit of a dick when in my early 20s I would go to my fav designer shop when I got my weekly pay and spend £200-300 a week in there and then go out and do £200-400 over a weekend. I was soon skint and at times didnt have cash to get to work so would borrow from my mum LOL!! It was total madness. I stopped wasting money and promised myself I would continue pumping money into those ISAs. Some family members tried to talk me around doing this or that or investing in shares or businesses but I stuck to my guns as I thought they were too big a gamble. I decided to listen to those who could prove they new they were talking about. You know this world is full of crackpots trying to tell you what to do. The women with no kids giving advice to a mum of 4 LOL!! The bloke who drives a 30k car and lives in a council flat trying to tell you he knows someone who does good finance deals on cars!! Bloody madness.

I'm currently in the process of looking into renting my place out instead of selling and using the income money to get another mortgage.

My mortgage right now is $500 a month but the rental income for a 4 bedroom home in this area is $1,000 - $1,200 a month Even if i never touched that money it would be paying its own mortgage AND give money to pay for any repairs. Or i could restructure the mortgage from a 30 year to 15 year and still have left over money. I like the idea of doing this for several properties and if things all work out i could live very comfortable in my retirement as i have a very good retirement fund going as well...

Can i ask what this book is? Looking at setting my own business up myself, with a plan to set up at least another (in a different field) later on.

Heres the book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1517315964/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1T373K7TWH4C7&coliid=IDTBWXHH25MM9, I'd defo recommend it. It's really got me thinking about my future in a different way and being much more focused about how I achieve my goals.

i already have 2 business ideas on top of the matched betting I do which I hope will mean I can get out of my current job, which I've been looking to do for a few years. Suddenly, the ideas are coming to me of how I can do this and really make the most of the next 5 years so the rest of my life can be a lot more confortable without being part of the rat race!

Saving money is definitely for the best, I save plenty myself but with interest rates being so pants, they aren't doing much. Plus as I said above the ultimate goal is to set myself up so I can quit my job. Property is an interesting one, but not something I'm ready to plough into just yet.

I use profit maximiser, it's got loads of different products and has a Facebook group etc so deals can be discussed. Started in May after reading a post on here and am £7k up. I'm looking at gettin a another set of accounts for a 'friend' and reckon I could make about £30k a year with 2 accounts. I'm hoping to do this alongside my full time job and get the wife involved too.

I would recommend profit maximiser, as it covers a lot of offers, has a daily calendar of offers and is where I make most of my profits. Have a google as I'm sure you can have a month trial for a £1. and it's about £100 a year after that.

Thanks for suggesting PM. Just read through the main page and I'm very interested. One thing I wasn't sure on is it just betting they use to make profit? It's current £97 a year for the next week and then goes back up to £147.

The one thing I'm a little scared about is paying the £97 and being totally confused on what to do/go lol £97 is a lot to waste!

There's instructions and videos on every type of offer! I started in May and have made £7000 I reckon there's at least £2000 I've lost in mistakes. My advice is do it! And give me a shout if you need any help!

Do you need to have a good understanding of betting?  I have a few bets here & there but there's alot of stuff I don't understand in the slightest.  I wouldn't mind having a go at matched betting, but feel it may be a bit too complicated for me.

Also, is it something you can do for a decent amount of time?  I mean, once you've signed up to all these betting sites & taken the offers, do you eventually run out?

£2000 lost as in you misplaced a bet or did the bets they suggested not come in. Will have a look tomorrow at work and will give it a go :)

I had very little understanding of betting before I started. I'd had a few bets on the grand national, maybe a few accas on the football a few years ago but nothing that meant I understood a lot of what's available, to be honest I still don't. As I said there are a lot of helpful videos for every kind of offer going and a Facebook group, so you really can learn what you need to as you go along. I'd say basic maths is handy but even that's not essential.

Once you you have done the sign ups there are still loads of ways to make money as websites do regular offers every day. There's a calendar of offers on profit maximiser so you can keep up with what's available. There's also casino and bingo sign ups and offers. Some are not risk free, some are but over time you will always make a profit.

if you hav a bit of spare cash and some time, I would recommend it to anyone. I started after seeing a post on this forum and had to check it out as I didn't believe it. I'm now £7k better off with big plans to make a lot more over the next few years. There are some who have an umber of accounts and literally do it as a full time job. With a baby and a mortgage I'm not ready to do that but I am planning to get as much value as possible so I have more options in 5 years time and can get my mortgage paid off.

£2000 worth of mistakes, learning or being a bit stupid.

For example I lost £300 thinking I had a way of guaranteeing a win on roulette.  I obviously didn't. Another was I had an acca running and forgot to lay one of the games. I kept an eye on the game and the team I'd bet on we're losing throughout the game. They were 2-1 down with a few minutes to go, so I layed £30 at what ever odds were available just to try and minimise my losses. They scored 2 late goals and that 1 game alone cost me £660.

I've more than made it back but it's easy to make a mistake now and again, some are more costly than others. My biggest piece of advice is just stick to the rules, discipline will make you more money. Or you can learn the hard way like I did!

Totally agree, you have to stick to the rules, dont gamble on ANYTHING even certain wins to try and boost your winnings a bit! stick to the rules if you win £7 quid on a bet take it dont think oh its only £7.

I honestly thing it helps if you do not have a good understanding of betting as you wont risk things.

Yes there are plenty of new offers constantly being made avaiable. With certain bookies though dont just use them for their offers as they will ban you really quickly. You have to keep them sweet with little bets (that you can lay so you dont lose anything) and make yourself look like a 'normal' gambler

Is Profit Maximiser as good as it's made out to be? Also I already have an account with most of the betting sites so would this affect me as I would not get the sign up offers.

I would be willing to invest in £97 but no point if I won't benefit from it

Personally I think it is worth doing I made around 7k from about a £200 investment last year. One of my mates has quit his job and this is all he does now, he does run 3 accounts doing it.

Personally I won't be quitting work but it definitely helps boost the holiday pot.

Yeah, i made decent money way back when . But sign up offers are derisory these days compared to then and hard to see where the profits continue once the Sign up Bonuses have disappeared. Bet 365 4/1 horse offer and Tennis/Horse arbing on Spreadbetting sites were an absolute goldmine, but they are so fast to limit you these days if they see you engaging in these patterns.

Maybe when Cheltenham rolls around the bonuses will increase again and return to the glory days of Ladbrokes bet £100 for £200 free, Paddy and Coral offering £250 in freebets etc.

Multi-accounting is a very very grey area, and not something I'd be looking to do, or recommending that anybody here do if they wanted to start matched betting.

If you have a fair job, these are what has worked for me.

1. Always pay off debt (including mortgage) before saving money, as it's always more costly to borrow.

2. Along with the above, keep a small slush fund for emergencies.

3. Over pay your mortgage every month to bring that debt down considerably.

4. Put as much in your pension as possible as this is tax free.

5. If you have money, but property and rent it out. This is not as easy as it looks, you need to learn.

6. When you look at property, learn off others, don't take advice from estate agents as they want to sell you something.

7. Financial advisors sell products, do not fall into the trap of thinking these are people you need. It is not a positive having a financial advisor, I have met loads and they are just salesmen who use a posh title to earn commission off you. Avoid wherever possible.
