Cheltenham Festival 2017.

Recommended Posts

Absolutely buzzing for the festival, really got into it last year at uni and watched the whole thing. I would love to go one day but will have to settle for the comfort of home and the rectangular thing in the corner.

So far I've only had one bet, Altior, Douvan, UnowhatimeanHarry and Buveur D'air all to win. I started off with a banker. I'll be at work but will be checking all the results!

Listen Mullins son Patrick buys bits and pieces off a friend of mine

he told them Melon will take a huge amount of stopping in supreme and that 4/1 will look a big big price come 1:35pm Tuesday

he also put up a horse outside the yard as well

Tweed at Cheltenham rather than suits. Except in the Best Mate enclosure where half of them seem to have string for a belt and carrier bags for shoes.

Looking forward to the festival but it has been dampened a bit by the injuries, still annoyed I didn't back Native River at 33's for the Gold Cup just before the Welsh national.

Ha Ha was refused entry temporarily last year in the Best Mate enclosure as I was wearing my long wool Crombie coat and a pair of nice leather brogues, fortunately I had a pound shop plastic bag and some binding twine at hand and was waved in.

Have to do it mate.

I never went until 2 years ago. Did 2 days Thurs and Friday and lost about 500 quid.

Loved it. Spent the next year studying form etc did 4 days came out all in 900 quid better off even after beer etc.

Need another decent festival this time if we make the quarters gutted to be missing the Tuesday as that for me is always the best day of racing. But Sevilla home should make up for it. I see a early finish day in the pub watching and then dilly ding Dilly dong at night.

Think this is my 6th year going in a row now. Did the first couple of years in the council stand until me and a pal decided to see what it was like over in club and haven't looked back since. Personally think Thursday is the best day of the festival. Everyone wants a piece of the Monday and Friday is so busy due to it being gold cup day. Get to see Douvan this year though, one of the few big names to not be ruled out.

Done 1 day in best mate 2 years ago, never again, tatts is the minimum now, personally I love the Tuesday, always seems to be the best day of racing across the board in my eyes.

Not a huge fan of gold cup day, seems that's all people are there for, if you know what i mean, no interest in the other races and leave as soon as gold cup is done, despite being 3 races after it.

Snow Falcon for the Stayers Hurdle.

Interesting, why do you say that, If unowhatimeanharry stays on his feet, I can't see past him, improving all the time and although we don't know who will run, there's some good horses with decent cheltenham history between the fave and Snow falcon.

for the record i'm only interested as I have placed a lot of bets online before the festival and am always looking for some e/w value on the course on the day as well. and it's not a horse I know much of and haven't heard tipped up. If they run Cole Harden and Clondaw Warrior would come into my thinking.

Probably the most spurious reason in the history of racing but here you go:

Was working in Spain over the winter and I got chatting to an Irish bookie in a bar. He reckoned he is well connected to the owners of it and that he's been told that for the whole season they've been aiming it at this race. He said to ignore it's runs in the lead up to festival (it's been subsequently beaten by Shaneshill and Vroum Vroum Mag, but not disgraced) because they are saving it for this race.

He seemed pretty bullish about it's chances though and everything he said would happen in the build up has checked out. Also, it has the added bonus of being at the festival last year and having a decent-ish race. I think 16/1 in a race like that is a good price.

Umm I'm intrigued now. Off to look at its past form and history. And there is no shame in being beaten by either of those 2 on their day.

Yeah after the 2nd year I'd never go back in best mate. Too many pissed up idiots who aren't really there for the racing. Don't get me wrong love having a beer there but I'm there for the racing. Think the best thing about gold cup day is when everyone leaves after the gold cup lol

had a little study mainly focused on the champion hurdle so far. doggo race. could be a big price winner in there. backed chtibello @ 40s last night, been trimmed a bit (although probably not due to my £7.50 e/w lol).

not a huge yanworth fan and can't be having buveur d'air at that short a price. don't think the new one will ever be quick enough for it and there's not much else in it really. probably back my tent or yours too. and moon racer if it's confirmed that's where he heads.

gonna look at the rest of tuesday races tomorrow.

For anyone who plays cards/roulette etc online, Grosvenor Casino now has sports betting, and at the minute has bet £5 get a free £20 and is offering DOUBLE odds on the 1st race of each day, MAX £10 but paid in CASH so for those that like to lay/matched betting that gives some scope to make a couple of quid. Think i'll be getting on Neon Wolf seen as they will give 8's.

Oh doesn't start until 6pm Monday. I've just deposited the cash read to go.

That's interesting cause his last few runs do match up in terms of not really put the hammer down but not getting terribly beaten, got to love a rogue bit of information like this lol

Yeah he's got me interested now, i've been having a look and looking at the betting as well, most bookies still have Yanworth, VVM and Apples Jade in the odds and I can't see any of those running, so there could be some value each way, not sure if I take a punt now as I assume the odds will shorten once the field thins. But i've done most my ante post now, need the cash for 2 days on course now, so may have to risk it nearer the time.
