Netflix

Recommended Posts

I want to try this so for those of you that are aware of Netflix. How does it work?

I'd prefer to watch tv/movies on my tv via my xbox. Will I need any cables or have to download anything to my xbox?

Don't get too excited, it's not as good as you hope. Dexter's 6 season's long and Netflix only has the first 2. :(

I wouldn't mind knowing how either. :)

if your on iPad, download a free app called "Hotspot Shield VPN" and each time you connect to Netflix make sure it is turned on. the logic behind this is that the VPN will change your IP to a USA one. so im guessing you need to do the same on the PC.

I'd recommend it. As m00nie said do it via a cashback service. I got £15 from Quidco and paid nothing. So in effect, I was paid for their service because I cancelled before the month ended. It is a good service, but it's still growing. I just pretty much watched the US Office and a few films.

Just got back from Tescos & they are promoting this thing called 'BLINKBOX'.  The checkout lad was pushing it & I said I would have a look.

I'm already with Lovefilm & pay something like £7 a month for 2 DVDs a month & unlimited instant.  I personally think that's quite good value.  A couple of Blu-Rays a month in the post & the occasional not-so-recent film on instant through the PS3.  The 'Instant' feature isn't very up to date, but it does me.

I thought BLINKBOX would be competitively priced as it's from Tesco.  It's pretty comprehensive & up-to-date, but I was shocked by the prices.  There isn't a subscription & you pay per view.  Django Unchained & other new releases are £3.49.  I checked out Breaking Bad from their TV Show list & it goes up to the current series - Season 5.  It's £1.89 per show or £19.99 for a whole season..........when you can buy it to own forever from Amazon for £15 or £35 for seasons 1-4.

Even an episode of Community is £1.89 & it's about 22 minutes long!!

Who pays these prices??  I don't know the cost of Netflix, but it's got to be cheaper than what Tesco are offering

Yeah it's great, watch quite a bit on the Ipad/Iphone etc etc £6 a month is nothing as well for what you get.

Only problem is everything you watch goes on facebook, so remember to flick updates off when you watch 'life after porn'.

I made that mistake

I like Netflix for the tv programmes (breaking bad, house of cards etc) which make it value for money.

They don't really update the film list very much though which is annoying.

If you get Netflix for the films I think you'll end up very disappointed. I can sadly see a future where every TV series has to be paid for en-block per season - a bit like buying a boxset, but sooner.

Most of the time people want to consume it at their own rate anyway, whether it be weekly or stored up in a block for continual viewing over a short period so I guess it's no bad thing.

Then again if it does go that way you can rest assured some broadcasters will then make their USP the fact that their big new hit series can only be viewed 'at this time on this channel'. Swings and roundabouts

Sons of Anarchy is well worth a watch, well made and an excellent cast. Also, if you like comedy, especially animated comedy, then watch Archer. Bloody hilarious.
