Safe Standing - Support the Early Day motion

Recommended Posts

Not actually physically possible for me to fit in the tiny cramped up seats in football stadiums and I'm slim don't know how fat people do it. I hope 1 day someone with some power will use some common sense and approve this 1 day

Just put on my twitter that have u realised how the polish ground have safe standing and how much of a difference it makes to the atmosphere! U would never hear English fans that loud! All the polish fans are backing there side! I'm not saying that's all because of safe standing, but it deffently improves the atmosphere!

Of course, because every scot has the same MP - just as every Englishman's MP is cammoron.

If I lived in Scotland, from where my family is from my MP would be Gordon Brown.

Well that was a slight over reaction to what was clearly a harmless joke.

Anyway, I've emailed Emily Thornbury of Islington South and Finsbury. DO ME PROUD

Recieved a reply.

Dissapointing but as expected.

Thank you for contacting me about safe standing in football stadia.

As you know, the Government believes that the longstanding policy,

which requires that stadia of football clubs in the top two divisions

be all-seater, remains an important measure in maintaining safety at

football grounds in England and Wales.

For the Government to even consider a change to this there would have

to be compelling evidence presented to it from all the relevant

authorities, including the police, on spectator safety, as well as it

being clear that this is something that all parties want.

In light of these findings, it is the Minister for Sport?s belief that

there is no appetite to change the current policy, following his

meetings with the football authorities and clubs in the UK.

I am aware, however, that the organisers of the ?Safe-Standing

Roadshow? recently undertook a fact-finding trip to Germany, and that

the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, the body responsible for

overseeing football ground safety in England and Wales, has said they

would be interested in seeing any video footage produced on that trip.

Given the above, I will not be signing EDM 573.

I do hope that I have answered your concerns and thank you again for

contacting me on this subject.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Bridgen MP

Clueless.

Why should ALL parties want it, hardly anyone wanted all-seater stadiums and they got approved.

Do they not even realise that these standing areas are absolutely nothing like terraces, that they're basically just seats with barriers on? Are they actually that ignorant?

Yes.

The amount of times I've heard sixty year-old politicians speaking about their fear of "returning to the archaic and dangerous terraces" is ridiculous. They genuinely don't seem to realise the huge difference between the terraces of old and what is actually being suggested. It's almost as if they haven't bothered to read into what people are saying or actually look at the rail-seat itself.

Well impressed with the House of Commons stationary and hand signed letter from Andrew Robathan. Shame he's a minister and can't sign Early Day Motions.

He did promise to confirm the government position so that's gonna be a "not interested" reply.

So if you're in South Leicestershire, probably not worth it because our MP can't sign it.

Remind him that the Tories no longer have a chief whip so it is his choice.
