Born in Croydon, midfielder Kember spent much of his playing career in the capital but moved north to join City in the summer of 1975 following Chelsea’s relegation.

He broke on to the scene with Crystal Palace in 1965 and was part of the first Eagles side to reach the top flight, something that caught the attention of Chelsea, who spent a club-record fee to gain his services.

Kember had plenty of top-flight experience and England under-23 caps when he made the switch to Filbert Street on the back of Chelsea’s drop, and although arriving in Leicestershire in his latter years, he still had plenty to give to City’s midfield.

Jock Wallace’s arrival at the club eventually signalled Kember’s departure and after a loan across the pond to Vancouver Whitecaps, Kember returned to Selhurst Park for a second spell with Palace before finishing his career back in Canada with Vancouver.
