Davis was a Bradford-born winger who was used sparingly as City went on to achieve promotion to the top flight in 1937. After the Foxes did achieve promotion that year, he didn't feature in plans for the First Division and moved on.

He was spotted excelling for local side Bradford Park Avenue by Sunderland and helped the Black Cats to their First Division title in 1936. He also notched up an impressive 77 goals during his time at Roker Park. He came close to getting the full-set of four divisional titles during his career. As well as aiding Leicester's Division Two triumph and Sunderland's First Division win, he won the Third Division (North) title with Park Avenue and came close to winning the Third Division (South) title when he moved on to play for Crystal Palace.

'Bert' made just eight league appearances for the Foxes, and one in the FA Cup, during a six-month stint at the club before he moved on to Selhurst Park after being deemed surplus to requirements at City. He finished his senior career with wartime playing stints back in Yorkshire with Huddersfield, York and Park Avenue before taking on a scouting role for Bradford City.
