The right-sided attacker came through the youth ranks at Derby County, his hometown club, before eventually making his way to Hinckley United, where he caught the attention of Fosse and they snapped him up.

He was a talented teenager when he made his Fosse debut in 1898, a home game against Lincoln City, and he actually shared the pitch with Harry Coulson and went on to hold his starting position for much of the following two seasons. The management, however, decided against retaining his services and released him. It meant a return to Hinckley before a move to Stockport County and eventually a return to Fosse for a second spell.

The deal to return to the club was effectively a swap deal, with Arthur Marshall moving in the other direction to County. His second spell as a Fox wasn't as successful as his first though and he moved on. He was actually played as a centre-half during his days with Maidstone, his final club, and he remained there after his playing days to work as a clerk.
