Hackett was a player who stuck to plying his trade in Leicestershire throughout his footballing career. Starting with Leicester Imperial, he signed for Fosse in 1901 but managed just two senior appearances for the club before moving on.
He impressed whilst on trial at the club and was given a professional deal. But both his performances, which came away from home, resulted in defeat. It soon saw him return to Imperial and he also played for Hinckley United.
