London-born Dawkins made just three league appearances for the Foxes after coming through the youth ranks at Filbert Street.

He was only a teenager when he was given his debut by caretaker boss Ian MacFarlane in 1978 - City's relegation had been confirmed and Dawkins featured at right-back in the final three matches of the season as Leicester looked to restore some pride following a poor season.

Those appearances were to be Dawkins's last as new manager Jock Wallace released the defender at the end of the season and he signed for Mansfield Town. Dawkins built a career in the lower divisions and he suffered the taste of relegation again just two years later with Mansfield before going on to enjoy promotion with Bournemouth in 1982.

Dawkins went on to feature 175 times for Torquay United under former Foxes team-mate Dave Webb - who also signed the full-back at Bournemouth - before his career came to an end at Gloucester City when he suffered a career-ending injury. Gloucester couldn't pay off the insurance for the injury and they were subsequently suspended by the FA.
