They say good things come to those who wait, and for Robert 'Bob' Lee that saying rings true. The Melton Mowbray-born forward could only muster a couple of City starts after signing from Blaby Boys Club before he was loaned out to Doncaster Rovers.
Lee, who was up against it after missing a sitter in his Leicester bow against rivals Derby County at the Baseball Ground in 1972, may well have thought that his days were numbered but he didn't let that impact on his performances for Rovers. Maybe with the thought of winning a contract at another club, Lee impressed in South Yorkshire and on his return to Filbert Street he was handed another chance - and took it.
His comeback came against Queens Park Rangers and Lee showed what was to come with a brace of goals in London. He was soon to win a regular first-team role and went on to make over 70 appearances for the club in all competitions, chipping in with 19 goals along the way.
He moved north to Sunderland in September 1976 in a deal worth £200,000 to City and typically scored on his return to Leicestershire with his new club - although that was to be his final goal for the Black Cats before moving on to clubs including Bristol Rovers, Carlisle United and Darlington.
