The outside-left caught the eye of City while playing for Stockton Juniors and he arrived at the club in February 1966 as a reliable back-up.
He got chances to impress manager Matt Gillies but when new boss Frank O'Farrell came in he was swiftly put on the transfer list and sold to Plymouth Argyle. He impressed at a lower level, with his pace causing defences problems week-in, week-out, and Blackburn Rovers bought him to do the same attacking damage at Ewood Park.
More success followed at a lower level with Bradford City where he helped the Bantams to promotion before finishing his career in Yorkshire with Scarborough.
