  1. The way to look at it is this. Black Lives Matter, at its core, is a just movement centred around ending racial discrimination. Supporting it will support that goal above all. That's really all there is to it. There may be socialists involved in Black Lives Matter but to be honest the vast majority of people of colour just want to live a "normal" life. That is what the PL is supporting with their initiative. Not supporting this initiative because of a vague premonition of socialism is frankly missing the point, and will probably radicalise more people - if you oppose their struggle

  2. Bruh. So if there are two houses, and one is burning, then it only makes sense to send the fire brigade to both houses despite only one of them clearly needing it? White people aren't oppressed, it isn't racist to ignore them for once. They don't need the fire brigade, so to speak.

  3. Can we just agree anyone on the far side, be that right or left is usually a bit of a self centred tit who doesn’t want to listen to others and wants to promote themselves over their causes. The majority of people want to have a discussion, want to learn others point of view and sit somewhere in the middle. Most could be left for some political issues and right for others. Most people don’t want to harm anyone, we just want to quietly go about our business.

  4. Nobody's asking you lot to join the protests, but if you're uncomfortable with people addressing the racial inequalities which still stupidly exist in our interconnected, multicultural world then you need to do some soul searching about why that is, not spend your time indulging in lunatic conspiracy theories where only one side of the political spectrum apparently has a monopoly on power despite not actually having been in power for a long time.

  5. Also, if you get an email saying “ congratulations! you have won two free season tickets to watch Nottingham Forest!” DO NOT open the email. It contains two free season tickets to watch Nottingham Forest.

  6. So you, as a white person, have been the subject of racial prejudice in the same way as a black person? You've had the police stop you for being white? You've had job interviews turned down because your white? Educate your self mate and then perhaps take out your keyboard. Saying "black lives matter" isn't saying all other lives do not matter or they matter less. It means black lives ALSO matter when in some places and scenarios they currently evidently don't. Eleminating racism isn't political, its being a good human.

  9. A few thoughts that I'd like a lefty to counter (not on the wind up, genuinely would appreciate a reasoned response)... - You can't judge historical figures through the morality of today. Was Colston a bad man because he was a slave trader? I don't know; that depends on whether you think morality transcends time and context. He acted in a way that was acceptable for his time. The ordinary, everyday views of a typical liberal-minded person in say, 1750, would make Trump look like a Guardianista on acid. Does that mean every human alive in 1750 was "evil"? *Note, I wouldn't 'celebrat

  12. Sorry if I'm missing something but isn't the message to support the view that skin colour doesn't matter and we are all equal? Surely this isn't political and frankly its absurd that in the year 2020 we have to have these words on shirts, surely it should just be a given. Players like our own club captain feel it needs to be supported as racism is still a thing and I'm happy to support him and all of our players in whatever they want to do to highlight it.

  13. I assume that just like every movement, there are extreme views at either end of the envelope ........

  14. I quite agree. I don't want BLM on the back of players shirts. Extreme political movements shouldn't be allowed to use football to further their Stalinist views.

  19. Disappointed to see supermarket workers being disrespected by some. Might not be as important as NHS staff but we've had to carry on throughout all of this, often made harder by inconsiderate arse holes. Yeah it's not an admirable job but we have families too which have been put at risk by our continued exposure to the public

  22. I really don't understand those who don't get this, in particular. For all that some people like to label others as easily offended, it's probably those same people that get offended because they think they're being missed out when people say 'black lives matter'. Irony at its finest! Of course all lives matter. No-one is ever saying otherwise. When someone says Black Lives Matter it's because they want to see equality and justice for the minority/minorities. It's because they want to see BLM up to the level of 'all lives'. Very much agree with the last se

  23. Been de-mythed that - another one of the social media stories https://www.factcheck.org/2020/06/donations-to-black-lives-matter-group-dont-go-to-dnc/ Simply use the same charity money collecting website as a few Democratic Party campaigns BLM is not a left wing/communist organisation. The movement may been hijacked by some people. Their goals are not restricted to a left or right issue https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

  29. Ah yes, asking one particularly Hard Left Extremist, who’s taken part in a decentralised movement to address racial inequalities, means the entire movement is a Marxist-Stalinist group sent to destroy the country. In other news, the Conservatives are a Far Right Party who all hate ethnic minorities: https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/28/britain-first-far-right-members-5000-have-joined-tories Here’s food for thought: if people didn’t get so dismissive of a group being evil commie traitors, and interacted with them, and worked with them, then the extr

  30. I am afraid this comment misses the point entirely. One position does not preclude the other. It's a bit like suggesting not contributing to the foodbank collection every year (which is amazing and fantastic) because there are people starving elsewhere who won't be lucky enough to benefit.

  32. Minority groups will always tend to have more connections with leftist groups because leftist groups are the first willing to recognise their marginalisation and fight for their rights. It's really nothing necessarily political, it's just that (shocker) leftist groups generally have more empathy for the plight of marginalised groups than the general establishment does. Rejecting justice just because leftist groups decided to extend their empathy to minority groups first and most consistently is just wrong.

I'd be happy for my kids to know that someone who uses words like that is an object of ridicule... as I knew perfectly well when I watched it as a youngster, because my parents brought me up properly. Maybe we should be more worried about how children are influenced by their parents, rather than getting annoyed about a 45 year old TV series most kids don't even know exists.

  39. What Covid and all these protests has taught me is that I dislike the left wing just as much as I've always disliked the right wing. Always considered myself left but now couldn't feel less associated with the desperate-to-be-offended, virtue signalling, condescending sods. I take solace in the fact that more extreme views shout louder. While on the face of it you'd think everybody is either extreme right or left, the silent majority is in fact much more representative. Vive la bubblé. Fvck the news. Fvck social media.

  40. Not sure if this is the right thread but something is really ****ing annoying me at the min. Basically any post by a footballer (or anyone actually) that mentions the whole BLM on their shirts on twitter. I fully agree with that but the replies that they get are atrocious. The amount of ****ing idiots who respond with “ALL LIVES MATTER” I mean how thick can you get. Obviously all lives matter this isn’t about that, it is about racism. Those replies just emphasise the need for education for these morons. How can people still be missing the point so spectacularly?! Absolutely ****ing embarrassin

  45. tbh I enjoy those kind of phone calls. Sometimes I get them from people saying that my computer has a virus and wanting to get remote access. As if there is some kind of worldwide virus police force working to cleanse people's computers out of the goodness of their hearts. I tend to start off by playing dumb and going along with it. I'll ask them to hold while I start up the computer and leave them hanging for a while. Then I will start asking them questions like how do you know? what OS do I use? who do you work for? what's in it for you? etc, I might pretend the computer ha
