  1. The obsession with the weirdos who want to get threads to 100 pages. Just been on the Fofana transfer thread and for nearly 2 pages it’s people going on about getting to 100 pages. It wasn’t funny 9 years ago it definitely isn’t funny nowadays. Cvnts

  2. Let's see. The total lack of entire neighborhoods dropping dead, despite the most invisible and infectious disease in recent times inevitably having spread, and continuing to spread. That enough? The people panicking about cases increasing contradict themselves in their panic. If you accept it's spreading like wild fire (It is, it's basically inevitable at this point, and you do accept this if you're panicked), you are also accepting that we're in a bad place case wise. If you accept this and realise how quickly it has come after schools went back, you must also accept

  3. Does anyone else listen to The Totally Football Show? The brilliant James Richardson described West Ham vs Newcastle as the 'One club you wouldn't swap your owners with' derby. Superb.

  4. I’d genuinely not heard of Michael Edwards until about 3 days ago, who is now being hailed as a genius by liverpool fans for the signings he’s making.... Its mad how all the best players want to go and play for one of the richest clubs in the world, current champions of England and under one of the best managers in the world isn’t it? I truly don’t know how Michael Edwards does it.

  5. Honestly, the more the pandemic drags on, the more I can actually make peace with us having fluffed UCL. Don't get me wrong, you'd still far rather be in it. But let's be real - no fans for most round, limited capacity at best for the season and (more than likely) no away days permitted kind of blows any enthusiasm one could have for it. Liverpool just looked silly celebrating their title in an empty stadium, and while I don't doubt their fans are delighted to be champions, it really dampens the experience if fans can't be present. So yeah, Europa weirdly ki

  6. **** it off this season, tragic ****ing draw and we need to keep the legs. Use the squad by all means but I don’t want to see us anything like full strength. The Europa league is a demanding competition with higher rewards.

  8. I think taking away everything else. Signings like this get me excited to watch the premier league every week. I think it’s been a great window for that so far as well, Chelsea’s signings, Rodriguez coming to the league, Thiago in at Liverpool and now Bale back. Good stuff!

  9. I know everyone wants us to win an fa Cup but I'd play the development squad in both cups this year. Just focus on Europe and trying to maintain as high a league position as we can. This season is going to be ludicrously hard and we've got nowhere near the depth of squad to cope. Our starting eleven will be great whenever we can field it, perfectly good enough to be top six again and make the knock out rounds of Europe. Not worth the extra strain of domestic cups.

  10. https://celtsarehere.com/dermot-desmond-breaks-silence-on-rodgers-departure-and-lennon-return/ He is every bit of a silent majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond keeps a low profile when it comes to Celtic and what he allows out in the public eye. This week he sat down for a rare long form interview with The Athletic and it was quite the eye opener in many ways. We will bring you the most important quotes from Celtic’s main man throughout the weekend. He spoke about everything from the state of Scottish football, European failure and the changing landscape of football

  13. I’d imagine most people with a job, mortgage to pay etc would be worried about any potential further restrictions and god forbid a lockdown. Id also expect retired people, and the elderly and vulnerable to be scared and support restrictions. People will always put their own needs first. Ive not stepped foot in my parents house since March (they’re both late 70’s) I sat in the garden with them and fully respect that they are vulnerable. I also made the decision to carry on seeing my 2 daughters (both over 18) throughout the whole crisis, I live on my own couldn’t bare

  14. But yet there's plenty of studies looking at years of life lost (YLL) which show that that the people dying aren't just being finished off. Just off the top of my head, there was one from Italy that suggested it to be something like 11 years once long-term health conditions were factored in. Of course, you'd want to go one step further and look at QALYs as well but I think it's pretty evident from the range of YLL (and the metric does have its limitations) studies that the narrative that some are keen to push, that it's just finishing off people that were likely to go soon anyway, is just care

  16. It's simple. The ONS says that, in a random sample of people, 1 in 900 will actually have Covid, a positive rate of 0.11111%, but let's say 1 in 1000 so 0.1% for ease. If your FPR is 0.8% then for every 1000 people tested, you get 8 false positives. So only 1 of 9 positives is genuine. For her 91% the FPR would have to be 1% based on population prevalence being 0.1%. However, the stupid thing about the point is that people being tested aren't random and have symptoms, so are far more likely to actually have Covid than a randomly selected group of people. And of course, completely i

  19. No, they did account for what a LTC and their age would do to life expectancy. Age is a key one actually, people seem to assume an 80 year old is about to die but the average Italian man who is 80 years old could expect to live for another 10 years. Many long-term health conditions that put you at risk from Covid are managed perfectly fine in normal times, having a condition doesn't make you weak and on deaths door, nor does being old mean you haven't got long left either. But again the study doesn't use the severity of the condition so maybe it would be revised down, but it also only looks at

  25. It’s not about being inconvenienced though, it’s about people losing their livelihoods. Do you have any idea of the scale of the damage to the hospitality/ events and music industries? It’s redundancy’s galore. People have free will to isolate and shield if they are vulnerable. Nobody is forcing pensioners out into mosh pits. My business is just about managing and I will continue to work and also socialise within the guidelines. I will also respect social distancing with people I don’t know who could be vulnerable, and continue to FaceTime my elderly relatives rather than put

  30. I can't believe this has been knocking around for 8/9 months now and we're still being led by people who have no long term plans and are making new rules up on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. Such weak weak leadership. God I hope this vaccines passes trials soon and we can start injecting everyone. This isn't going away, I don't know why some guidelines aren't based on age rather than throwing everyone into the same bracket. If you're going out and about, don't go and visit elderly relatives in their homes. It's not ideal, but neither is deciding what every

This level of panic is nuts it really is. We will look back on this ****wittery with a wince at the vast economic cost, long term death rates from untreated illness including cancer, and loss of liberty. Meanwhile Sweden is out the other side and motoring.

  33. This is key for me. It was fine to do for a couple of months in order to give us some time to prepare ourselves, but we can't keep doing it every 8 weeks when there's a slight rise in case numbers locally.

  34. This is a red herring. You've got a valid point, but this isn't it. The point of Covid deaths is that a lot of them are people who were going to die anyway. (Well, all of them were going to die anyway, I suppose.) But they were going to die fairly soon. It's exactly the same with covid as it is with flu and pneumonia. How many people are killed each year by flu and/or pneumonia? About 20,000, estimated, depending whose figures you use. How many people die each year with flu and/or pneumonia on their death certificate? About 115,000. Why the difference? Because most of the

  35. The underlying health conditions were not necessarily going to cause any of those people to die at the time they did had they not contracted covid though. Millions of people live with underlying health conditions, you can live a perfectly normal life, and have a pretty good life expectancy, with many underlying health conditions. It's not these conditions that killed these people at the time they died.

  39. Aren’t unemployment rates through the roof over in the States at the minute? Covid has its hand in it but the lack of worker protection plays into it as well. Don’t a good portion of mass shooters in the State often admit far right views? That Dylan Roof fella who shot up the black Baptist Church and the guy who did the shooting in Texas against ‘immigrants’? Have they not killed many more than BLM and ANTIFA? Trump’s legacy is riots, mass unemployment and polarisation unless something drastic happens. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Biden will be a particularl

  42. Burnley can afford to lose 11 players because the only requirement to be a Burnley player is be 6"2+ and to be able to kick and head a ball. Easy to have good depth in your squad when all the players are cave men.

  43. No. But as we've discussed on here many times before "underlying conditions" takes into account about half the population of the UK. It doesn't mean people who were already on their death beds. Listen, all I know is back in March/April time for about 6 weeks or so there were people coughing and struggling to breath in hospitals to an extent that probably any experienced doctor or nurse who had been working in hospitals for 30 or 40 years had never seen before. And that over 50,000 extra people died in those few weeks than usually do. Does that mean it will ever get that
